Rangers Vs. Predators: Keys To The Game

The New York Ranger will look to end their mini-skid tonight against the Nashville Predators. After a very embarrassing 4-1 loss to the Montreal Canadiens the other night, the Rangers need to rebound on home ice. Here are tonight's keys to the game!

Fix The Power Play: Once again, the Rangers power play still has not had any success even with only one chance against the Canadiens. The Predators are very aggressive on their penalty kill, as they were against the New York Islanders yesterday afternoon. They need to buckle down and get the power play working tonight, and getting some movement can go a long way for the struggling power play.

Curse Of The Back-up Goaltender: Whenever teams start their back-up goaltender against the Rangers, it is the perfect formula for disaster. Tonight the Predators will be using Anders Lindback, their back-up. Whenever these types of games come about, it seems like the Rangers barley get any shots. They literally need to throw everything at Lindback tonight, something is bound to find the back of the net eventually.

Remain Focused: As Brandon pointed out in an article early today, the Rangers need to forget about the past a focus on tonight. They have been pretty good about that this season by moving on from past failures and come out strong the next few games. Tonight is one of those nights were they need to let their anger from last game fuel them to a win tonight.

Regarding the PP. Right now we are getting doubly hurt on our PP. Not only do we fail to convert, but having a 2 minute span on uninspired confidence-sapped hockey is actually momentum-negative for our club. This sounds kind of silly given that were talking about professionals, but Torts/Sullivan need to strip the PP down to the bones. We don’t enter the zone well on the PP, so it should be mandated that the we gain the red and dump. The non puck carries will know this and can be flying on the forecheck, no questions asked. It should be specified whether the dump is gonna be a hard wrap or a soft chip, but everyone needs to be on the same page. Once in the zone, keep it basic. Play it like its even strength hockey, which is our more effective hockey. Cycle the sam way, work it to the point, and fire the puck . Pucks got to get to the net, and bodies NEED to be there. With an extra man, more times than not we’ll be in a position to capitalize on rebounds, tips.

Indeed! Which game was it that Stepan and Feds scored on siiiick deflections? That’s what we need. We also need AA and Boyle and Rupper to use their size and maybe find them rebounds.

I don’t think sam knows anything about cycling though.

Philly game pre winter classic … generally speaking, our PP lacks confidence, from top the bottom. We need to build confidence back up to get this thing humming (eventually) and that can be done by getting it back to basics. Back to basics, score some PP goals, and let it it build momentum

The way we play our game doesn’t adapt well to a powerplay. If we dump and chase, we’re giving them the split second they need to flip the puck out. On even strength, opponens have neither the option to do that nor the defense-first mentality, so we have can pressure them well; not so with the powerplay.
Players like Step, Gabby, and Richards will have to carry the puck in and hold it there if we want to be effective

Take it to the net and keep jamming and jamming until somebody comes on you.

sam rosen nose a thing or two about cycling..ha

on a side note, who do you like in the aussie open for mens singles?

Maybe You're Right!

Sam nose a lot of things. I saw it in his profile.

The AO is Djokovic’s to lose. He’s got the other guys’ number now. Although the AO has always been a graveyard for top players. Stosur lost today.

Didja see that Murray hired Lendl to coach him? Lendl said, “I like Andy’s sense of humor.” Since when did Lendl know what’s funny?

by cmont on Jan 17, 2012 6:02 PM EST up reply actions

didnt see that, but murrays got the game, just needs the mental side of it. I thought Lendl was all golf all the time now…

by rmg10 on Jan 17, 2012 6:05 PM EST up reply actions

The Idea Is . . .

. . . that Lendl lost his first four major finals before winning eight. Murray needs the same adjustment.

Andy is trying to win at the same time as Roger, Rafa, and Novak. He pretty much has to beat two of those three in successive matches. He’s in awe.

Last year Roger cruised into the semis and awaited the result of Murray’s quarter. Reporters asked him about Andy’s chances and Fed said, “I dunno. It’s been about 150 years since a Brit won a major.”

To everyone else: sorry. RMG and I had a little courtship, that’s all.

The great news – scored free tickets last minute! The bad news – my wife works until 8:00 and is not one of those “ok, will meet you up there” types. At least she works right across the street… will take missing some of the game to see the 2nd and 3rd live, I guess!

I Am Responsible

To no one in particular, I said: “I will accept a Rangers loss today if I can please have a Giants win.” Perhaps God heard, and agreed.

Please understand I never wish a loss on my New York Rangers.

And thus, because of you, I had a miserable sports Sunday.

Dearly Beloved, We Are Gathered Here to Remember . . .

. . . that going 15-1, and wearing cheese on our heads, and believing that doing so anoints us NFL champions, may not be our calling. Rather, our calling is to put peas and water and salt in as many cans as possible, to hope that the teary, pageant-winning mascara-running Miss Wisconsin doesn’t ever, ever tell the great Green Bay quarterback the evening before a playoff game to call her, and to wait ’til next year.

There. Gloating finished.

Poor bastard...

Just saw a kid in Penn with an Avery Winter Classic jersey. Hope it was Chinese knock off.

On the plus side his 17ish looking GF had the ass of a 13 year old Swedish boy, so all was not lost.
