I remember last year when the Penguins got Neal and Niskanen for Alex Goligoski I thought that the Dallas Stars got hosed in the deal…

I remember Bob McKenzie saying that it was an even trade.

Seriously, what a terrible trade for Dallas. They got hosed.

Oh, I agree

Its just, I live in Pittsburgh and everyone here was bitching about it last year. Pittsburgh has basically been producing solid young D-men like crazy, but no good wingers and they needed someone to go along with their centers. A perfect “trade from surplus” deal for them.

by NastyNate82 on Jan 19, 2012 7:18 PM EST up reply actions

Absolutely. I think it was Niskanen and Neal for Goligoski right?

Two bodies for one, you are already coming out on top IMO. All the guys in the trade were young, but I thought Neal was the prize in the trade back when it happened.

I am sure their logic was: we have Jamie Benn and Loui Eriksson. Do we really need James Neal?

Much, much worse. Though they probably wanted a guy to move the puck on the powerplay, knowing that they were almost certainly going to lose B. Richards to free agency.

True

Goligoski isn’t too shabby…its just why throw in Niskanen to me too? I agree, it already looks like Pittsburgh is already getting the best player and you throw in a D-man with it?

by NastyNate82 on Jan 19, 2012 7:29 PM EST up reply actions

An NHL defenseman on the right side of 30 that also has plenty of potential.

Pittsburgh moved a puck-moving d-man in Goligoski when they could more than afford to move one with Kris Letang.

by Prustyballs94 on Jan 19, 2012 7:37 PM EST via Android app reply actions

There is a commercial that is played far, far too often during Ranger games.

There is a song that blasts during the commercial with a lady singing, “SOMEBODY LEFT THE GATE OPEEEEN.”

and then some other nonsense.

Hence the gate being open joke.

That’s a penalty called on lesser-folk. If Boyle went up and over and got a concussion….does Malkin get 5 games like Marchand? Good discussion.

by Caerid11 on Jan 19, 2012 7:39 PM EST up reply actions

Same exact play, same exact intent.

by Caerid11 on Jan 19, 2012 7:39 PM EST up reply actions

The intent was to injure. The NHL & their refs can’t keep saving these Penguins not named Matt Cooke. If Malkin is going to intentionally injure players he needs to get suspended for it and 1 game will not do it justice.

by NYR #35 Richter on Jan 19, 2012 7:43 PM EST up reply actions

Funny, Nick Foligno did the same thing on Phaneuf, and that play looked worse than Marchand’s, yet Fol got a 2 minute penalty and that’s it.

BZZZT. That’s the damn problem, you think something is worse because somebody got hurt. So, do we penalize things only when guys get hurt?

I think that’s completely wrong. You can’t punish things just when guys get hurt, because that will NOT stop it from happening. The low-bridge shit is becoming a problem: Marchand, Malkin, Foligno, and there was another one I forgot about just recently. Either the ACT is a penalty/suspension or it isn’t. Just because somebody gets hurt shouldn’t change the disciplinary action at all.

by Caerid11 on Jan 19, 2012 8:43 PM EST up reply actions

totally agree with you there

Just IMO, it looked like Marchands was worse and had more “intent to injure” I guess you could say.

It’s like going hunting in the woods, and you fall asleep. A 12-point deer comes up within 20 feet of you, turns full broadside for a heart shot, yet you get up and try sneaking close enough to the deer to stab it in the neck, only it hears you move and runs away into the bushes, you drop your gun, roll down a hill.

Now you have no gun, lost in the woods, no deer, and you’re full of mud. That’s our PP.

For the longest time (30) games, we were winning the majority of our games.

Now its win, loss, win, loss. Sure we are responding well after losses, but we are responding poorly after wins.

This team needs to learn to hit the net and run the powerplay, and they will be fine.

Watching Malkin really shows me what an elite guy does, and how they change the game.

Maybe Torts will blame it all on Anisimov again.

AA is atrocious. No need to beat that horse again.

Mhm, and Richie/Gabby/Cally/Dubi all played so much better, huh?

It’s an obvious bias our coach is showing.

Cally played 3rd line a lot tonight. Richards wasn’t out there when they pulled the goalie. Subtle messages, but it’s not getting through. Richards has 0 chemistry with anybody here. Stepan and Gaborik have lost any they had.

It’s time to put Rich back with Gab and try it out. Can’t do much worse at this point. Put Dubi with them, then Hags/Step/Cally. Something new.

ah well.

big sigh but we’ve got to look ahead.

the first ten minutes were an early indicator of what was about to unfold.

we’ll get ’em back.

Team has lost its consistency. 1 bad loss, 1 good win, 1 bad loss, 1 good win, 1 bad loss.

For future reference

When I say something like “Let’s not joke about killing people” it means we stop talking about killing people or “fucking them in the nostrils”.

I think your going to need a rules list tomorrow. Seems like a lot of the things going on in here have been against the rules or just not cool.

I think a lot of the “problems” stem from people not using common sense and working very hard to ruin a good thing by continually testing my leniency.

All we ask is for you guys to keep your nonsense within reason. That shouldn’t be asking a lot, but it seems like lately it has been.

yeah I gotcha… The big thing is when the game gets boring/ out of hand… thats where it gets ugly fast.

A terrible excuse.

Just because the game is going poorly doesn’t mean we can say whatever the hell we want.

Great…

We’ve reverted to the lack of cohesion again. Alternating wins and losses…not cool. I know it’s a tough patch in the schedule…but, it only gets tougher. Time for Sather to make changes.

Booby doesn’t change the outcome of this game. Lately either the entire team is going, or the entire team is flat. Except Hagelin because he’s just like the fuckin Roadrunner.

Interesting stuff. First loss to an Atlantic Division opponent since the 1st game on Long Island.

Devils 1-0
Islanders 3-1
Flyers 3-0
Pens 2-1

I take solace in the fact that the rangers excel in a challenging division.
