Prospect St. Croix named WHL Player of the Week again
4th round draft pick Michael St. Croix was named WHL player of the week for the 2nd time this season. Last week he had 2 hat tricks giving him 6 goals and 4 assists in 3 games for the week. St. Croix was also the WHL player of the week for the first week of December (the same week Christian Thomas was OHL player of the week), and was also the WHL player of the month for December. He is currently 3rd in the league in scoring with 31 goals and 46 assists in 48 games. Not bad for an 18 year old 4th round pick. Not sure why he hasn't received more attention as a Rangers prospect. His size probably works against him, and he probably should be ranked behind Kreider and Thomas, and maybe Miller (although Miller is certainly not lighting up the OHL the way St. Croix has been lighting up the WHL this year), but I am not sure any other forward prospects should be ranked ahead of him right now.

Hockey’s Future projects him to being a 2nd-3rd line play-making center:
Michael St. Croix, C, Edmonton Oil Kings
Acquired: 4th round (106th overall) in 2011
Currently, ranked fourth overall in the WHL in total points, Michael St. Croix is having a career year. With four game-winning goals thus far this season, St. Croix has posted 67 points (25 goals, 42 assists) in 42 games, while maintaining a plus-23 rating. Recently named the WHL Player of the Month, St. Croix was previously the league’s Player of the Week. Expected to be a good two-way forward at the NHL level, St. Croix is more of a playmaker than a scorer. A smaller player, he has very good speed and excellent hockey sense. St. Croix is expected to play another year of junior hockey prior to becoming a professional in the fall of 2013.
Corey’s recently said he believes St. Croix will be in his top 100 prospects next year, so I’d imagine that will move him the projections a bit.

Actually Leslie did a good update of our whole CHL level group 2 weeks ago:

not for nothing but don’t count this kid out from being a Ranger in the next few years. I have been following him for a while. seems like a big-time player that thrives on challenges as he is scorching hot after a terrible start to this season. Kreider, Miller, Thomas, St. Croix, McColgan, Erixon, McIlrath, etc. Nice.
