MSG sucks!
Why are the rangers always second string to other devils/islander hd broadcasts?? Why must we always come second on our own network? Ranger games ( especially this season) should always be on MSG hd or MSG plus hd, MSG 2 looks like watching tv underwater and we are home too! WTF? Really wish rangers could have their own channel.
Honestly why do we even carry the devs. Isles? If nobody else cares, why even broadcast it?

Time Warner
If only I had MSG, I’d be glad to miss a handful of games. As it is right now, I’m missing the entire season. Never would have thought this before, but I can’t wait for NHL on NBC to show (hopefully) the NYR games.
same, I went back to college and got thrown into this brutal Time Warner situation. The worst part is I can’t do anything about it……

Oh I find the links online, but the internet sucks so bad here, it chops around every minute or so…God just doesn’t want me to watch the Rangers :(

its not so much that the Knicks get precedence for the main channel; they always have. there is no accounting for taste I guess.
but its that the Devils (and sometimes Isles) get the second HD channel over the Rangers that is asinine. the channel is “MSG”, meaning teams that play in MSG should get precedence. its common sense and good marketing since the Rangers draw more viewers.
I say you start a petition.

More people watch the Knicks than the Rangers.
Simple as that.
"Mr. Madison, what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul."
LET'S GO RANGERS!!!
that's why I had hoped the lockout would stick
especially with the Rangers doing well. it would have cleared up space and lowered their fan base. now they play what seems like every night.

Comcast gave me Knicks on 3 channels, Devils/Islanders on 2 each. NO Rangers tonight.

I have always felt if the Knicks or the Rangers are playing at the Garden that night, they are on the main MSG Channel.

It’s really simple, MSG+ was FSN NY (Fox Sports Net) and MSG bought it in 2008 and rebranded it as MSG+.. Basically all you really need to know is that MSG and MSG+ aren’t the same. It’s not like ESPN and ESPN2. FSN was rebranded as MSG+ (It’s not like the decided to add a new channel in addition to MSG)
FSN had pre-existing contracts with both the Islanders and Devils to broadcast their games on that channel. Those contracts are still there. So the Islanders and Devils basically have rights to be on MSG+ through that contract. (These contracts are signed for like another 20 years so that isn’t going to change)..
The Knicks and Rangers play on the main MSG channel. Right now, the Knicks generate better ratings for the channel (According to the Nielsen Guess-Machine) and that is pretty much the only reason why they’re on the main channel over the Rangers. Although the Rangers “ratings” have been climbing while the Knicks ratings have gone down after the slow start. If both are playing they will put the 2nd team (The Rangers right now) on MSG+ if the Devils and Islanders aren’t playing. If one of them is playing, the Rangers go on MSG2. Which on Fios is the channel right after MSG. While it’s not in HD (MSG and MSG+ are), for some reason both MSG2 and MSG+2 are in HD quality for me (Like most none-HD channels are with Fios)..
It’s not that hard to understand. Look at MSG+ as it still being FSN. That’s the easiest way to understand it. If you have TWC, Comcast, Cablevision or DirecTV, I suggest you switch to Fios if you can. It not only has the most channels and the best quality, but it’s also the cheapest option.

great post!
this is something that i never knew(that msg+ was fsn) i just chalked it up to anti-rangers mindsets even in our own hometown networks. i know we get bumped for the knicks because new york is and always will be a basketball town. that i can accept. but to be relagated to crappy msg2 and have our hated crosstown rivals on the good channels always infuriated me. i’m happy to see that with fios the situation is better. i’m sick of twc and i just switched to fios. as of feb 5 i will no longer have to put up with their nonsense. i’m also wondering if the 5 billion deal with the lakers has anything to do with the current situation. it’s also scary to think that if the twc thing happened with us could it happen with the other teams like the yanks and the mets?
On Cablevision, MSG Siberia is listed among the HD channels for me now (used to be 414 or something, now it’s on 773 or something).

thanks
that negates my arguments above. thanks for the clarification.
still don’t like it though. The Devils/Isles shouldnt be on a “MSG” channel. just rename it.
but at least Fios had the Rangers in Standard Def. I cant complain on that front.

Cablevision Feature
Cablevision in CT added this new feature (not sure if it’s also available everywhere else), where there’s a main hub channel, kind of like NFL red zone, where you see all 4 channels on one station and can select which you want from there. So I had MSG, MSG+, MSG2, & MSG+2 all on one channel last night, and simply selected the Rangers ststaion and I was set. It’s kinda cool, and they have them ALL in HD, so even when the Rangers get stuck on MSG2, I see the HD feed.

ESPN Radio
It’s the same thing on the radio. Whenever I’m driving home and both teams are playing that night, 1050 ESPN bumps the Rangers to 970 where I start losing reception west of I-287. From there it’s alternating signals of Rangers and Cleveland Cavaliers games the rest of the way home.
Versus
What about versus? Or NBC Sports? They show the Rangers sometimes when the Knicks are on MSG.

Those games are all picked out before the season starts. Has nothing to do with the Knicks being on the same night.
