Open Thread: 2012 NHL All-Star Game Skills Competition

Photo

With just under two hours until the 2012 Skills Competition kicks off, we thought it would be a good idea to post up who will be participating in what. As if it isn't already known, the Rangers will be represented by Marian Gaborik, Carl Hagelin, Dan Girardi and Henrik Lundqvist tonight.

When you look at those names, it's pretty much a dead giveaway that Hagelin will be participating the fastest skater competition. Hagelin will also be the lead-off man for the Tim Hortons NHL Elimination Shootout, which should be interesting as well.

Marian Gaborik will be appearing in two events tonight, which will be the G Series NHL Skills Challenge Relay, in which he will take on the role of the target shooter. He will also appear in the Tim Horton's Elimination Shootout, and he will shoot in the number six spot.

We come to Dan Girardi who will be one of the four passers for Team Alfredsson in the Accuracy Shooting competition. Finally we come to Henrik Lundqvist who will only be participating in the final event, which will be the Tim Horton's Elimination Shootout. He will be the starting goalie for the competition as well.

For the full list of which players will be playing where, john us after the jump.

Nothing I want to see more tonight than whether Hagelin can break Gartner’s fastest lap record.

Yep, I want to know exactly how fast he is compared to the other speedsters in the league now too. Although I have no clue if any of these other 7 guys are considered some of the fastest, do you?

kessel's quick Hossa too. But i'd say hagelin is fast

I think Gartner did that at buffalo auditorium which wasn't a legal rink in today's nhl

if hagelin does break it thats amazing.

Only one that can match him is Hiller at the top of his game, but since his vertigo issues, he hasn’t gotten it back.

Didn’t we almost trade for him a few years ago?

Like MDZ for Stamkos before the Lightning ownership changed?

At the time? Girardi, Del Zotto and Grachev.
Now? Well obviously Grachev is gone, but probably Dubinsky, MDZ, and equiv. prospect.

Ooof…

I’d give up any two of those easily.

Man, we could have given them MDZ and Grachev for Stamkos….

by Caerid11 on Jan 28, 2012 9:43 PM EST up reply actions

IDK about that.

Would you trade Cally, Dubi, Girardi, MDZ, and a 3rd for Stamkos?

I don’t think I would.

Think of it this way. MDZ wasn’t near what he is now, Girardi wasn’t who he is now (Staal and Sauer were healthy) Cally wasn’t the captain, and Dubi…well…was Dubi.

by Caerid11 on Jan 28, 2012 9:46 PM EST up reply actions

and grachev was supposed to be amazing :)

I would imagine if Grachev was included, the list would’ve been 3 deep. It’d have been 2 if it was, say Callahan and Girardi.
