Rangers Vs. Panthers: Marian Gaborik's Overtime Goal Pushes Rangers Past Panthers
The New York Rangers capped off a great game tonight at Madison Square Garden with Marian Gaborik's overtime winner. Martin Biron notched his eighth win of the season of the season, and continues to play outstanding for the Rangers.
Just four minutes into the game, Marcel Goc scored his third goal of the season, on a great 2-on-1 finish. Stu Bickel made a bad pinch, which led to the eventual 2-on-1, with Marc Staal left out to dry. Just over ten minutes later, Anton Stralman notched his first goal as a New York Ranger to knot the game up at 1-1.
After the first period, the Rangers doubled up the Panthers in shots with the total 16-8, in favor of the Rangers. Ryan Callahan put the Rangers up 2-1 on a power play goal in the third period. The initial goal was recorded to Brad Richards, but after review, the puck Callahan in the leg before entering the net.
Follow after the jump for more.
Just 35 seconds later, Mike Santorelli tied up the game with a beautiful wrist shot that beat Martin Biron short side. It was a bad defensive play as Santorelli came into the zone 1-on-3, and still found a way to beat the Rangers. The score remained the same through the third, and we headed to overtime to decide the winner. 3:29 into the overtime, Marian Gaborik was left wide open in the slot and let a slap shot go that beat Scott Clemmensen over the pads for the win.
As Gaborik celebrated, and the rest of the Rangers piled off of the bench, the Rangers went on to win their third straight game. After falling to the Panthers in their first meeting of the season, the Rangers have won three straight against them since then.
The Rangers will be in action again tomorrow night against the Pittsburgh Penguins starting at 7:00.

I know he didn’t get points but I really felt like he was every where until Gabby stole the show late. Solid game from him tonight. Overall you know this game had to be a emotional come down so to get a win is outstanding even though it wasn’t the best played game overall
Gabby was absolutely on fire. Just blasting through huge stretches of ice and dangling everyone in his way.
Take it to the net and keep jamming and jamming until somebody comes on you.

not really ranger related, went to check out standings on nhl.com just to stare at NYR in first….then i realized, who’d have ever guessed NYI would be 8 pts higher than ANA? guess they decided they wanted to fail for nail.
wow
I said the same thing to myself. Islanders beating anaheim . Ummmmm can we have Ryan now?
Anyone see the vid of him last night vs the sharks. It was insane! He spun around like 2 defensman

Great game
The score doesn’t reflect the way the Rangers dominated especially in the third period. I thought both Florida goals were shots that Henrik would have stopped. I wonder if the ref’s felt like they were playing under a microscope tonight, not many penalties were called. I still think the league should come out and say that the ref’s had an off night at the Winter Classic to at least give the impression of fairness to the Rangers and Torts.

This is the first game in years I have been unable to watch any part of due to MSG’s greedy stance. My disgust with them knows no bounds.

the Rangers are #1 in the NHL, not just the east…although after watching highlights of Boston’s 9-0 pounding of Calgary we’d better stay focused.

I tried that, and it said it didn’t ‘support my computer configuration’ and then I got about 10 popups. Didn’t improve my mood.

You have to play “click the little x” on the ads, takes 5-10 secs for the real x to show up, and they put fake xs up sonetimes

I don’t see us changing the line-up any time soon, WW and EC can watch from the press box all season. Bickel is solid he had a bad pinch but AA also should of stayed back to cover him instead of chasing the puck. It nice to see that we have the opportunity to let Staal ease back into game shape. When he is back to 100% we will have the best shut down D of any team.
I got to say....I love this friggin team.

All I Have To Say

Is hockey hard? "I don't know, you tell me. We need to have the strength and power of a football player, the stamina of a marathon runner, and the concentration of a brain surgeon. But we need to put all this together while moving at high speeds on a cold and slippery surface while 5 other guys use clubs to try and kill us, oh yeah did I mention that this whole time we're standing on blades 1/8 of an inch thick? Is ice hockey hard? I don't know, you tell me. Next question."

Congrets Rangers!!!
Thank you Gabby!..Keep on scoring! You are my favourite player!
Gabby
you can tell in the 3rd period that he really, and I mean really wanted a goal. Glad he got the winner. Even if it would’ve been all sorts of poetic had Rupp gotten it instead. Salute and shout out to Kopecky included

Gabby scores, and Clinton approves…Wow!
This game showed that one more scorer is needed, and we are as good as a Stanley Cup Finalist as we can be. This Ranger team is right there, with the NHL’s best. But, I’m convinced that one more scorer will help the power-play, and keep teams from keying their defense on one line (the GAS line). Love Dubi’s game right now, but want to see him with Hags and Mitchell on the third line.
Time to go get Ryan, and go for it all.

Anaheim GM said yesterday that everyone except Koivu and Selanne are on the trade block, BUT that core players require core players in return, not prospects and picks.
Translation: he wants at least a quality player AND picks/prospects for a guy like Getzlaf or Perry. Because if he knows if he goes for a straight-up player for picks/prospects, the on-ice product will be shittier and their already-dwindling fan-base will stay home.
Though it could be a motivational tactic.
don’t see why anyone in serious contention would want any of the headaches that are Getzlaf, Ryan or Perry.
talent is only one part of the equation.
If Teemu were available then different story, steady as a rock.

I’d take any of them.

Not prospects and picks…my arse.
I don’t need a translation, as it’s easy to see that a GM who wants to get the similar effects Toronto got with the results of the trades Burke made.
Being in the same market as the Kings hurts them, so they can ill-afford to be wrong on what they do.
Obviously, Bob Murray cannot afford to make the mistakes others have made in what would end up being a rebuilding process for the Ducks. They cannot get rid of everyone, but getting as much back as possible only makes sense. But they cannot count on getting “everything” on their wish list. There will have to be concessions along the way.
