What The Win Over Tampa Bay Means For The New York Rangers
The New York Rangers came away with a huge overtime victory against the Tampa Bay Lightning last night. It's also worth noting some of the successes the Rangers had in that game. With this win, it puts the Rangers five points ahead of the second place Bruins, who are currently tied in games played with the Rangers. Also, they maintain their four point lead in the Atlantic Division as the Flyers won tonight as well.
First off, the Rangers finally scored their first power play goal in 19 chances over the last six games. The power play looked like it was completely reformed tonight. The Rangers gained the zone without any troubles at the blue line. Once they gained the zone, they got control and made some excellent passes around the outside.
Even though they only scored once, they could have put in a few more with the way they were moving the puck. If they keep that up, the power play goals will come in bunches. Also, Brad Richards scored just his second goal in 13 games tonight, and it wound up being the winner.
Follow after the jump for more.
Brad Richards was extremely visible tonight around the net, especially quarterbacking the power play for the Rangers. In addition, scoring the game winner is a huge confidence booster in itself, so hopefully that jump starts Richards again.
Artem Anisimov has also been getting his game back together as of late, and currently has four points (1 G, 3 A), in his last three games. One of those three assists, being the one that setup the game winning goal tonight for Brad Richards.
Overall, last night's game had a lot of positive signs after a very poor performance against the New Jersey Devils on Tuesday night.

i think
these next four games will be the telling tale as to whether or not we make a big splash or pick up a smaller pieces.
I fear your right, but I really hope they don’t base their decision making on a 4 game sample over a 50 game one.

A lot of it might depend on the market too

Gotta think it's Wolski
Very convenient timing for him. He has a real chance to prove he can stick, either here or somewhere else. Head injuries are tricky so Feds will probably be out for multiple games. If it was just one game I would assume Newbury or Deveaux, but long term I have to think it will be Wolski or Zucc.

from now on
I’m gonna stay out of trade talk until the deadline simply because I just can not judge who should be traded away and who should be traded for based off of NHL.com highlights. I haven’t watched a full game since the WC thanks to TWC and MSG…so that’s what this win means

Everyone should be traded, the Rangers should stay the course. Make a move, be patient, stick with the youth.
The Rangers need to make a trade, and the Rangers need to stand pat.
Did I cover it all?

Yes Rat face. Scored like 45 goals for the Rangers playing with Mess. But then I could score 45 goals for the Rangers playing with Mess so there you have it.

Dude
I was starting to get ill earlier from reading a rumor about Dallas being interested in Dubi. Told my aunt, and she said “you didn’t remember they had a scout there against the Devils?”
I am getting numb just thinking about the possibility.

Im ok with losing Dubi if it addresses our scoring need. IMO Dubi is redundant on this team.

I doubt that, most likely its Morrow. I dont want him.

Dream of all dreams would be Jamie benn. That kid can play. I’d give up quite a bit for him as its obvious he command a ton. Realistically though he is an untouchable.

i wonder if the team feels that way. you know, the players who play with him, hang with him, practice with him.
dubinsky’s shots are way down from last year, but he has almost as many hits as all of last year. he’s doing what they need him to do in order to win games, which is what they’re doing.
dealing players isn’t just about getting another player to take that guy’s place and score more goals. there’s a much bigger picture.
Shoot the puck Barry!!!
agreed
I think Dubinsky means a lot more to the team than people think. Most of you focus on goals, but that’s not always the biggest issue. I believe he’s doing more good than bad, despite his lack of scoring.

I will say
I liked the intensity dubi prust and boyle played with last night.
Boyle was a monster. Played like a Pats wide receiver lining up against Giselle.

exactly
they set the tone for the third period, got the crowd into it as well.
Shoot the puck Barry!!!
I honestly think that when Boyle and Mitchell were playing with Dubinksy, that was our best line. Then Torts did what he always does and broke up a line that was playing well together. The dude needs to stick to his lines, even if we lose a game, or just change if we play a team that has a style of play that calls for a change in lines.

That line on the forecheck was just amazing last night.
by I.LikeMittens on Feb 10, 2012 8:23 PM EST up reply actions
Dubi can be let go, honestly its more important who we get for him
If its for a Loui Errikkson/Jamie Benn, which i highly doubt, then it would be worth it.
If its for Morrow then forget about it, no thanks
Sorry
Eriksson/benn >>>>> dubi
Would cost much more than just dubi for either those guys.

I can't stand
watching hockey on a terrible quality online streams. So I just have to suffer through this black out and get my hockey fill from NHL Network and NBC

NHL gamecast is definitely worth it. If you have a ps3 you can download the app for free an watch on your tv. It’s much cheaper this year.

this was another instance of following up a disappointing loss with a win. that’s one of things that good teams do. move on to the next game and put the past in the past.
Shoot the puck Barry!!!
this may not be the most talented Ranger team I have ever seen but I can say it is the most resilient and that’s why they have a shot to contend and possibly win it all. even last night, they didn’t play badly the first 40 minutes but a couple of TB plays and the puck is in the net and they are down 3-2. what did the Rangers do? they come out flying in the 3rd period and basically mauled TB all period. they don’t give up.
