Blueshirt Banter Discussion: Do You Think The Overtime Goal Will Get Brad Richards Going?
Brad Richards scored another big goal for the New York Rangers Thursday night, potting the game-winner in overtime. It's taken Richards some time to adjust to the new team and the new system, and it's evident that he's not fully there yet. But with another game winning goal (his seventh so far this season) under his belt, will he start to find his game?
Tonight's matchup against the Philadelphia Flyers poses a tough test for the Rangers, who will look to push their rivals even further down in the standings as New York looks to secure the division. Richards should be a big part of that, especially when he's on top of his game.
I don't think Richards has played poorly the past few games, I just don't think the bounces have gone his way. That changed against the Tampa Bay Lightning. So I ask all of you: Will the overtime goal get Brad Richards going?
The floor is yours.

Too much is made of ‘how many’ compared to ‘when’. Only 1 person in the entire league has more game winning goals that BR. Is he putting up record numbers? no. Has he contributed significantly to the success of the team? Yes.
His assists are way down but it’s not like his linemates have been tearing up the score sheet or the PP is any good. He needs a winger that creates space for him or themselves. The wingers that he is paying with are the exact opposite. They minimize space with the forecheck and boardwork.
I fully expect this guy to take it to another level come payoff time. He has been a point per game player in the playoffs of his history.

Just win. And that’s what this team is doing with the efforts of the entire team. Teams that rely on 1 or 2 players to carry them through regular season, are destined to fail in today’s NHL. This team doesn’t have to play that way because they get what they need from various players each night. Whatever the game calls for is what this roster adapts too in order to get the job done. Richards will play better but where a player like him is worth their weight in gold is in the playoffs. He’ll be fine. Just stop expecting Sedin like numbers.
Hey guys – a newbie here. I’ve been following your posts for a while but have never felt compelled to write or reply. I would like to say that reading all your comments over the past few months has been insightful, funny & very knowledgeable – but more than anything – almost always sharing my views of the Rangers. It is refreshing to read posts of likeminded fans unlike sites like TSN where the bias sometimes drives me nuts.
Here’s my first (and hopefully not last) comment.
BR has been disappointing due to the high expectations & his contract but overall he hasn’t been a bust. His numbers are top 3 on our team (which doesn’t even touch the top 30 in the NHL as we seem to be scoring by committee) and that’s playing in a new system, with revolving door line mates and lately with our 3rd/4th liners. Although a vet, he has also had to make personal adjustments moving NYC and I’ve always said that the biggest test for any new player entering the Rangers organisation is to survive the harsh spotlight of Broadway and the media circus & high expectations of Ranger fans. He has adjusted ok & will get better over time. He needs talent around him (not sure WW is the answer there) and he’ll start producing again. I have faith.

Kreider
Last Week on NHL home ice, they said they expect Kreider to sign and actually play with the Rangers after the College season is over. I know there was talk about him not signing with the Rangers, but it looks like he will.
I would be surprised if that didn’t mean that he will “sign a professional contract with the Rangers organization” and play with the Whalers.
I think he could jump to the Rangers right away. Don’t forget he’s a little older. It’s not like he’s 18. Plus he has probably matured physically so he’s ready for NHL play.

He has NHL size and NHL speed. Two things that normally keep a player from not playing in the NHL.
I would not be surprised if they did but also would not be surprised if they didn’t want to over expose him right off the bat.

I just think that it would not do much for the big club, we better not be in that kind of need in April.. but it could be detrimental to his growth. No reason to rush him for essentially a dozen games in a new system.
Every player is different. Amonte came in straight from BU and played in the playoffs and that didn’t hurt his development.. Getting that experience could actually help a players development.
i think he would have a positive impact. Speed and size is perfect for a forechecking system. Just look what adding Haggs and his speed did for the team. Added a whole other dynamic.

I said it a while ago that this would probably be our addition for the season rather than a big deadline acquisition…

I really hope so
He’s gotten a bit of a raw deal so far, and I’d love to see him get hot and carry the team for a few weeks. I just hope he doesnt continue to struggle and get booed. I know we New York fans are passionate, but I’ve always hated how quickly some of us are to boo a player. Booing should be reserved for the opponent, or in extreme cases, a crappy player who is lazy or a douchebag.
no way to boo any Ranger player ever but I wish he’d stop making that cross ice pass on the PP. It gets intercepted 7 out of 10 times. Just get it on the net.

What I see happening
Fedotenko not traveling with team, dress 7 d-men today.. but with Wolski scoring another 2 goals last night I see him with the big club tomorrow to play the Caps.. especially if they dont score more then 3 today.
We all want that natural scorer to go with Richards and our grinders.. we have one waiting down in the AHL. This guy does have skill despite what some say on here
As Mr. Buffer would say.... ITTTTTTTTSSSSSSS TIIIIIIIIIIIIIMMMMMMMMMMMEEEEEEEEE
@MikeDay88
Unfortunately
there is no “enthusiasm” to get wolski in the lineup….once torts doesn’t like someone he never gives them a fair chance

a lot of guys here want to give WW another chance (and I think he is talented) but the best comparison I can make here is to EC. Nice hands, decent skater but floats too much to fit into the system. He’d have to have Gabby cred or be a point a game man to last with the current lineup.
