Rangers Vs. Capitals: Keys To The Game

Here are your keys to the game for the New York Rangers' matchup with the Washington Capitals.

Ride The Momentum: The Rangers got a huge win Saturday afternoon, crushing the Philadelphia Flyers, 5-2. The Rangers can use the momentum they've gained from the win over the Flyers this afternoon against the Capitals. The Rangers are 7-2-1 in their last 10 games, and are entering a tough stretch of play against some of the better teams in the NHL. They will have an opportunity to beat another one of those teams tonight.

Don't Underestimate The Capitals: Washington is a struggling hockey team right now, there's not debating that. The Capitals are 4-3-3 in their last 10 games, and are sitting in 9th place in the Eastern Conference. The catch? They're two points out of third place, since 63 points would be good for tops in their division. That makes the Capitals a dangerous team, and the Rangers can't take them lightly.

Losing Backstrom has been crippling to the Caps. For the Rangers, stay the course. If the PP picks up consistently for the Rangers then they will be a formidable team to play against any team. Looks like Bickel stays in as Feds still out (no Moore review is just criminal). Pressure the Caps’ D and they will cough up the puck on a continuous basis, you can bank on that.

Moore

He was fined 2500 if i am not mistaken. doubt he would get much more of a punishment being a player that does not commonly play a dirty game.

you are correct but Shanny did even review the play for suspension. any blow to the head should be IMO.

Caps have been decimated with injuries this season with Backstrom being the latest victim. Without him and Green playing this team is vulnerable. However, this is a dangerous game and one I’d love to see the Rangers come out looking for blood in. It’s a classic trap game though and while the Caps are in a tough place, they still have talent and Ovechkin is starting to find his game. The one that makes him a huge threat, especially on the power play. And we all know he loves playing at MSG. It’ll take a serious effort to win this game but at this point, I expect nothing less.

Ovi wants to BE a ranger that’s why. He wishes he was part of this team

Does Biron get the nod today?

by TH4NYR on Feb 12, 2012 8:25 AM EST reply actions

I say Henny gets the national TV nod. Marty either Tuesday or Thursday. Just a hunch.

I agree. It’s rare that goalies play in back to back games but I think to keep the momentum off yesterdays win, The King makes sense to start today. Also like you said, national TV warrants it as well.

If the rangers base their goaltending decisions off of what tv station theyre on they’re doing it wrong

Letdown Game

This game scares me a bit. Back to back wins, one off a hated rival. Back to back early starts. We also do not match up well with the Caps, their speed gives us problems. Can’t let them hang around have to jump on them early because they get discouraged. Hope it’s not a letdown

We have a tendency to come out flat after high energy games like yesterday. Yesterday is how we should play EVERY game. Hope we can maintain it through all of this week – Caps, Bruins, Hawks..

perhaps

the rangers remember getting smacked down by the capitals last time they met. hopefully, that is enough motivation to keep it from happening again.
