Rinaldo Faces Hearing

Philadelphia Flyers forward Zac Rinaldo faces an afternoon hearing with the Department of Player Safety on Monday to discuss the charging minor he was assessed for hitting Detroit's Jonathan Ericsson at the 13:32 mark of the first period in Detroit's 4-3 victory Sunday night at Joe Louis Arena.

Can someone explain to me how this guy is even on an NHL roster? He is a freakin punk who already has a laundry list of fines and is about as reckless as they come. He make that gutless puke, Carcillo seem like a Lady Byng finalist. How many times is this guy gonna be allowed to take runs at players before he faces a significant suspension? Hopefully today he gets taught a serious lesson.

Rinaldo

he and Sestito need to be watched, or maybe warned before someone gets hurt, they don’t seem to discriminate who they go after (think Carcillo vs. Gaborik). i do think Rinaldo has some talent, he seems to forecheck pretty well and might collect some goals in front if he kept himself out of the box.

what i don’t get is, they’re clearly hurting the Flyers. why do they keep playing them or try to alter their role a bit?

That’s the other question I had…these guys are hurting the Flyers more than helping them and it baffles me as to why they are continually thrown into the game in crucial spots or at all. Sestito does nothing but fight and he’s not even good at that from all the ones I’ve seen him in.

Tradition

Who else has any grit on the Flyers? NOBODY (except Hartnell and he doesnt want to fight anymore now that he learned how to score). The Flyers can’t field a team without at least 2 obnoxious goons. Add to that the fact that they are more of a finesse team this season than they have been in recent years. Somebody has to be in that lineup to deal with other teams knocking the pretty boys around.

old school.

i think its just an old school way of managing the team. some management personnel just can’t escape the old belief that every team needs its goon. sather has signed his share of talentless goons for the rangers. luckily, these days, our goons aren’t really goons and they actually have a fair amount of talent to go with their toughness. i can see what they are trying to do…they have a potent offense and they want to balance it with some toughness…but unfortunately for the flyers, sestito and rinaldo are dopes. if i’m the flyers, i’m sick of their crap…and someone else is dressing in their spots.

A team reflects its coach, and that’s exactly what we’re seeing.

When the Flyers are losing games in the 3rd they try to goon it up. The coach sends these guys out there if the game is out of reach. He knows what he’s doing.

"Mr. Madison, what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul."

The hit on Ericsson

was downright scary, he went for the head you could see it clearly.

Philly Loves Their Filth

Going back decades… they seem to have a quota for it. These guys still have jobs because Philly likes to play dirty and keep their trashy fan-base happy.

The city has this dillusional image of the Broad Street Bullies persona being passed down through generations. It’s the closest thing to ‘tradition’ that they have, so they need to continue paying the bottom-feeders of the league to play dirty for them.

Pierre McGuire needs to go away.

Rinaldo and Sestito make me wish Carcillo was still on their team….and I hate Carcillo.

just disgusting players and Shanny does zippo. Sorry BB but Shanny is disgraceful as guys like Rinaldo who don’t get properly punished continue to commit ridiculous fouls.

I think the headline is that he faces a hearing, not that he does NOT face a hearing.

by BigB22 on Feb 13, 2012 6:57 PM EST up reply actions

the point is it shouldn’t have to take time after time after time to get these hearings.

Rupp

Notice that Rupp hasnt been mixing it up lately? Rumor was that he broke his thumb on a rinaldo hit a couple games back. Anybody have the scoop on this?

Actually it was when he was slashed by Eric Boulton against the Devils

Who makes up these numbers? Some of us normal folk can afford to pay 2500. Hell give me a stick ill run out there and break a thumb or two on a phili or Devil player for 2500. Well worth it lolol

….I’m kidding but seriously that’s nothing to these guys making millions. It’s not enough incentive to stop

2 games, first offense. Get ready for more.

Sorry, I mean first suspension. I didn’t see the hit but saw a lot of wings fans saying that they did not think it was suspension worthy. Rinaldo is still a douchebag regardless

by BigB22 on Feb 13, 2012 7:50 PM EST up reply actions

The Hit

The hit itself was borderline. I’m more on the side of it being reckless and irresponsible because Ericsson had moved the puck and was completely defenseless. Also, Ericsson is 6’4" and was standing almost completely staright up after he chipped that puck behind the net. Rinaldo is 5’11" and just about made contact with his shoulder to Ericsson’s jaw! He leaped into that “check” if you can even call it that. Bush league IMO and while if it were an isolated incident, it may not be suspension worthy, the fact that he is a repeat offender warrants his being suspended. He’s been catching the eye of the NHL a lot over the course of 7 days.

Hrm. Borderline. Ericcson should not have been watching his pass like that…
