The New York Rangers will be taking on the Philadelphia Flyers in a Winter Classic rematch today. It should be a pretty uptempo game, and it should be interesting. The Rangers are currently coming off of a shootout victory over the Buffalo Sabres, while the Flyers are coming in on a very disappointing 6-4 loss to the Devils.

That’s only on sweep plays that take out the legs. What Stralman did really was a bump from behind, which is legal when a guy has the puck.
Coulda been a penalty, but after looking at the slow-mo, it wasn’t his stick or arm that took out the legs.
I’d have to see it a few more times to have my mind changed about it. From what I saw it looked bad.

I still think that’s weighted towards the diving stick-sweep. If a guy is skating in slowly and you push him from behind and he falls, how is that a penalty? It’s nothing more than a body-check.
The thing that bothers me is- Stralman should be allowed to get Stick first and knock the puck off Giroux’s stick right? Makes sense to me.
I think he did that before any of the rest of the contact. Or maybe he did it simultaneously while his body made contact with Giroux’s. I dunno.

Well, as a Flyers fan, I can tell it’s because I did neither of those things; my GM did. As someone who has suffered under Sather, I’m sure you can relate.

I think Holmgren made a pretty ballsy and effective move (at least for right now it appears that way for the time being…the early returns look good)…its a kind of move Sather would never have made. I think they got a pretty good return for Richards and Carter and even if Bryz hasn’t really worked out so far I think he’ll rebound.
Yeah, I don’t mind the return, but even if Bryz plays his career average we are a substantially worse team than we were last year. Regardless, neither Richards nor Carter asked out, so there’s no reason to turn on them. I still like Richards (and pretty much every Flyers fan always has) and I still like Carter (and pretty much every Flyers fan never has).

Even with all the battles between Richards and Dubinsky I always respected and like Mike Richards, it was hard not to. If he wore a Rangers jersey he’d be one of my favorites.

I wouldn’t understand this…why did the majority of Flyers fans dislike Carter? They might be a worse team with Bryz, but that might be due to unforeseen circumstances (i.e. the Pronger situation) than anything else. Richards was a great two-way player, and as a Ranger fan living in Pittsburgh, it was funny to witness their absurd hatred of Richards.
Carter was so good that he made scoring 30 goals while shouldering a large defensive burden look easy, so people thought he was lazy and didn’t care. If you understand that, feel free to explain it to me.
I think the team is worse regardless of whether Pronger is in the lineup (he missed extended stretches last year, too), but they are still a very good, very like-able (present company excluded) team. I don’t have a huge problem with the trades, I just think we’d have been a little better off having not made them.

Exactly! I’m still surprised that with the upgrades this past offseason, "better lighting" wasn’t on the agenda. I don’t watch that many Knicks games, but I feel like the lighting is better for basketball… which doesn’t make sense.
