Philadelphia Flyers Goalie Excuses.. give me a break..

Is it me or do the Flyers have a history of breaking good goaltenders. I mean what goalie would want to play for a team that consistently blames him for their misfortunes. They consistently complain and blame everything on their goalie.

“They play the same system, it's not a surprise to us,” Kimmo Timonen said. “They block a lot of shots, but everybody’s blocking a lot of shots. We can do a couple of things better, but when they break down, their goalie makes saves.”

link [here]

Flyers D said that regarding Bryz in today's game. I'm sorry but i watched the game today Bryz made a ton of really good saves, rangers outshot the flyers 38-23. Bryz let up one soft goal to gabby at the end of the 2nd period. That's it, we deserved every other goal.

They need to work on their D and stop crying about Bryzgalov, honestly wish they would trade him, i'm a big fan of mr. universe and it sucks having to wish him the worst because hes on the Flyers let alone watch him play worse BECAUSE hes on the Flyers.

im reading on their blog, they think mdz goal was soft too.

i think its more of jealousy that their two top threats, us and boston have lights out goalies and they have decent goalies.

Insert witty comeback here

I'll say MDZ's goal was a bit soft.

A snap shot that goes 5-hole. WIshes he could have gotten that one and Dubinsky’s probably also. Gabby’s goal was an awful goal to give up though.

Flyers defense isn’t too great and I’m sure they miss Pronger dearly.

IMO

gabbys goal was the only soft one, but he also made quite a few GREAT saves on gabby today during the game

by rain-g-errs on Feb 5, 2012 5:58 PM EST up reply actions

My personal opinion, Bryzgolov was average at best. Gabbys goal was by any standard, soft. The last two scored on him were shots that if hes on his game, he stops. Maybe my opinion of a goalie is a little inflated having the pleasure of cheering for Hank and there is certainly no denying that Philly eats up goalies and their careers. While I will not condone a player essentially throwing his teammate under the bus, Timonen is right. To me, the difference in this game today was when the Rangers had a break down, Hank was there. When Philly had a break down, they were picking the puck out from the back of the net.

~Those Caps fans sure think they can make some noise.... too bad their team can't.

~ Biggest dissapointment of the year so far? Not being able to hear that fat ass Boudreau get heckled at MSG!

I got the pleasure of watching Bryz fairly up close for 1st and 3rd period today, honestly he wasn’t very impressive. He had some nice saves for sure but he definitely let some “tricklers” through. Most of the rangers goals seemed to be with good looks at the net and decent space to get the shot off (other than gabby, which was the only goal i couldnt see up close)

Regardless, your team lets up ~40 shots if your goalie isn’t playing hot you’re screwed.

I think that first goal he gave up ripped his confidence for that game, seemed to take Philly a while to recover from it

by teknics on Feb 5, 2012 8:09 PM EST reply actions

MDZ’s goal was a 5 hole slapshot that deflected off the back of the inside of his pads and in. dunno why people are calling that soft.

Dubi’s was basically just like MDZ 1v1 with goalie, had a good shot to beat him over the pad to the left side (facing the goal)

by ariii on Feb 5, 2012 9:58 PM EST up reply actions

yea exactly, its not like he jumped out of the way, seemed like bad bounces off his equipment. He got there but just couldnt “squeeze” any of the pucks i guess. At the most they might be goals “he’d like back” to move a hair over this way or that but i dont think they were bad positioning type goals, imo. Plus when the shots were taken they didnt seem contested by the D much, maybe Dubis.

Going to watch the game highlights now to see if my opinion changes from what i saw in person, everythings easier to call in slo-mo lol

by teknics on Feb 5, 2012 10:36 PM EST up reply actions

yeah honestly Bryz wasn't that bad

he let in a softie to Gabs. That’s about it.

made some great saves, yeah if you are a superstar goalie you make the save on MDZ and you make the save on Dubi but you are not expected to make a 1v1 save, its 50/50 at least thats how i see it. I wouldn’t get mad if hank gets scored on within a breakway thats just fucking stupid, i just wish he would of stopped it haha :)

Flyers are just jealous Hank is the best goalie in the league

by ariii on Feb 5, 2012 10:42 PM EST up reply actions

Yea just got back from the highlights. My Thoughts:

AA Goal: No chance for bryz, sick tip. (At the game there was a delayed reaction because you could barely tell the puck went in)

Gabby: Def a bit weak, seems like bad luck + his stick not being flat (which is one of the first things i learned as a goalie)

MDZ: Maybe he stayed a bit back in his net but it def seemed to jut clip the inside of his pad and tumble in

Dubi: 1on1, like you said, is a 50/50 thing. Especially with no one defending the shot at all (damn flyer how about you learn to block a shot or at least make a real attempt) If you’re gonna blame Bryz on that you better be absolute decimating Carle for the turnover.

Feds Goal: Definitely a softie.

Overall i definitely think they just have King-envy

by teknics on Feb 5, 2012 11:23 PM EST up reply actions

feds goal was an empty netter lol

didn’t know if your being sarcastic

No way, he let in a shot from center ice while he was way out of position. All Bryz’ fault.

but yea i was being sarcastic on that one.

by teknics on Feb 6, 2012 12:33 AM EST up reply actions

Totally agree. Maybe you could say that the best goaltender in the leaguer would have saved Dubi and MDZ’s goals (I think Hank probably would have a good chance at stopping em both) but they werent bad goals to let up IMO

by Zuppa Di Pesce on Feb 5, 2012 10:43 PM EST up reply actions

I have complete confidence in Hank on just about every shot, dudes a machine this year. Guess that rest is really helping him

by teknics on Feb 5, 2012 11:31 PM EST up reply actions

Both of those goals were defensive lapses. The D in Philthy is mediocre at best and that will be their early playoff exit unless they make a big move. The beauty is, they really cant make a very big move with JVR in the mend and their terrible cap situation. I love it! Couldn’t happen to a bigger bunch of losers! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

Side note

The Rangers have played the least amount of games in the conference and have the most amount of points.

Meh, that Gaborik goal was just awful. He could have stopped the MDZ goal as well. Dubi’s shot was tough because you could see Bryz leaning and thinking about a pass, and the shot went right over his pad. AA’s deflection was unstoppable.

"They play the same system, it’s not a surprise to us," Kimmo Timonen said. "They block a lot of shots, but everybody’s blocking a lot of shots. We can do a couple of things better, but when they break down, their goalie makes saves."

Take that quote with a grain of salt, because while it seems to be praising Henrik, it really smells like a subtle attempt to throw Bryzgalov under the bus. On the surface things may look good, but I’d put money on their being some dissent in that locker room like the past couple years. They hoped to fix it when they jettisoned Richards and Carter, but they may have dumped the wrong guys.

by Caerid11 on Feb 6, 2012 10:13 AM EST reply actions

i read it clearly as an insult to Bryzgalov

and that makes me sick, i hate the flyers with a passion they are quick to blame everybody but themselves, the refs, the goalies, the lights, the humidity, the sky being the color blue.

and Timmonen is utter trash and will always be utter trash for almost decapitating Ryan Callahan in the Winter Classic, the play where he actually got a penalty called on him haha but i won’t get into that.

could have stopped MDZ doesn’t mean should have stopped, it was a 1v1 basically, 50/50 and he got the short end of the stick, phillys D is absolutely god awful and they are filled with a few skill guys and a bunch of GOONs they don’t deserve to play hockey.

by rain-g-errs on Feb 6, 2012 10:48 AM EST up reply actions

Yeah it is quite clearly a knock on Bryz and Bob.

by BigB22 on Feb 6, 2012 10:54 AM EST up reply actions

Not subtle at all

They do NOT play the same type of system that we play and they DO NOT block shots like we do. No other team does. McGuire and the boys on NHL radio this morning were singing the praises of the Rangers. Pierre loves us and says we areone of the toughest teams in the NHL, if not the toughest. Kimo is just upset because his chumps cant outplay or outwork our guys and he needs somebody to blame. How about a Philthy D man actually slides over and picks up MDZ and Dubi on either of those plays instead of leaving an already shaky and flaky Bryz out to dry? I so want to go on the Philthy blog and talk smack right now…

by BeukeBOOM! on Feb 6, 2012 4:14 PM EST up reply actions

The Blues are probably closest to us in style.

by rain-g-errs on Feb 6, 2012 6:05 PM EST up reply actions

I thought Bryz played well TBH. Nothing great, but not bad enough to lose them the game.

They lost because their defense played poorly.

"Mr. Madison, what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul."

LET'S GO RANGERS!!!
