Looking Ahead...
What a great first 50 games it's been!
Two of the storylines stand out to me. Specifically how to breathe life into the pp, & what, if any moves, should Slats make before the deadline.Unique topics, I know.
First the power play. I searched for the right word to describe the man "advantage" situation, & finally found it in Webster's Dictionary.
stag·nant/ˈstagnənt/
Adjective:
Having watched every game this year there seems to be a solution in terms of system that is right in front of them & not being used.
The Rangers generally play a strong 4-on-4 game, cycling well & getting a fair amount of chances. Why not stick a big forward right on top of the crease (Rupp/Boyle, even Cally) & play that 4 man cycle, which will open up seams, creating chances. Sure, they attack the net now, but only after the puck is already in front.
The other thing I'd do is give Richards a couple games off the pp completely. Take it away & make him want it even more when he gets the chance again. For a guy who has incredible vision & ability he looks lost at times out there. I have faith though that the real BR will show himself before this season's out.
Secondly, the trade deadline.
Lots of names are being thrown around by many a hopeful fan. For me, the most important move Sather can make is to ensure that the great young core of this team is in tact for the forseeable future.
At this point, only Fedetenko, Mitchell, Wolski, Bickel, Eminger & Stralman should be made available via trade.
Sure names like Bobby Ryan, Ryan Suter or Martin St. Louis would look great in Broadway Blue, but at what cost. This team is just starting to enter what could be a fantastic stretch of years, with Kreider, Miller, Bourque, Thomas, Erixon & McIlrath on their way.
1994 may have been successful in terms of exchanging the future for an immediate cup, but at what cost? The ship sank slowly but it sunk for more than a few years, wallowing around in the contracts of such hall of shame embarrassing names as Martin Rucinsky, Bruce Driver, Martin Rucinsky, Chris Drury, Martin Rucinsky, Wade Redden & on & on & on.
Draft picks are the only other tool Stogie McStogerson should be allowed to dangle in front of anyone. Save the core & the money for the summer, when names like Parise, Doan & Hejduk become available.
Either way, I couldn't be more ecstatic about where this franchise is heading. The future's so bright I gotta wear shades!
This is my first attempt at writing something in here. If I get positive feedback I'm going to try to turn this into a regular thing, so feel free to let me know what you think. And whether you agree with me or anything I've written here or not, I thank you for taking time out of your day to read it.
Let's Go Rangers!!!!

the powerplay line was right on!! they need more creativity and set plays like football..
lets go giants.. im sorry rangers haha!!
i like stralman out there with gabroik as well on the pp. i wanna see del zotto. carry the pusck and shoot more.. del zotto giradi… stall/ giradi.
we need to open up lanes and play our best players.. skilled and a big guy in front doesnt hurt and work the puck down low and behind the net and corners and let our d men like del zotto and stall, giradi mcdoungh bury any garbage and attack the net for rebounds and move the puck around for one timers. screens deflections. corner plays fake shots, touch passes and gretzky hockey behind the net always work 2 on 1 down low the d men always will commit and that leaves someone creeping around the net open to that weak side!

i disagree with you on the trading post though.
i think we can trade as of now, dubi, wolski, feds, mitchell, zuccarella, eminger, and woywitka…
i would not trade stralman….

disagree with you on dubi for the sole reason of chemistry. this team is such a tight knit group and most of these guys have played their entire professional lives together. trading dubi would have a negative affect on the team’s chemistry and mindset. unless its an offer you absolutely cant refuse then you keep dubi. sure hes slumping in the scoring dept but hes been good in every other situation and definitely can pick up the scoring in march april may and june

hopefully dubi can get back to where he is!! and with our youth coming up, like kreider, thomas bourque etc… dubi might play well with them!

i hope dubi can return to his hardworking maguic again. he could fit well with up and coming youth at center with kreider, thomas and bourque etc..

If we trade Dubi
I would rather it be in the offseason, not now it’s too insulting to him as a player
i like feds on this team. and hes inexpensive enough to not dress and knows torts system well enough to not be hurt by lack of ice time.
i think we need to a big splash. gabs and henrik are having great seasons, we need to a)lower their burden b) win now while theyre hot. forget someone for the pp lets add to our top six
Insert witty comeback here

Adding to the top 6 would add to the power play, as a top 6 talent would have good to great offensive skills. Its not the players on the PP its the system that they are running. I have read on other posts talking about needing a new coach for the PP, thats what we need to fix it… a coach not personel.
I like the idea of trying to add another gritty forward with better scoring touch than Boyle and Prust. A guy like Doan or Morrow (that type of player not necessarily specifically them) or a David Backes type would be ideal for the Rangers. They bring the JAM that Torts wants and have better hands to finish around the crease.
I liked the post and I couldn’t agree with you more about the trade deadline. It has been great watching the homegrown talent turn the corner so far this year. Ranger fan from Canada? That’s awesome but I’m just curious how that happened.

For me it was one word
Messier.
I cant stand the media up here surrounding the Leafs and Habs. (I dont need to know what color Brian Burkes poo was last night)
Mark Messier
Theo Fleury
Pavel Bure
Brian Leetch
Al Macinnis
Mike Richter
were always my favorite players and we had 5 of the 6 of them, and I love the NY sports atmosphere in hockey
Wait one second
I dont remember writing this post, as I am Mike and I am the biggest Rangers fan in Canada haha. What part are you from?
As for the post, I agree that they have to put Callahan in front of the net and let him turn into a pest like Holmstrom is.
For the trading part you nailed it right on the head and it goes back to my post where I said we have the core and dont need a major shakeup. One depth forward is all we need.
Dont fix something thats not broke
I’d love to see a homer type player Infront of the net, that guy has had a pretty lucrative career out of just standing Infront of a goalie, cally is a bit smaller than (not by THAT much) than homer.. Wasn’t Boyle or dubi supposed to be that guy?

Of the rumored players available.....
Teemu is the only player that makes sense. He is the only “available” player that does exactly what we need (a scoring winger to play with out biggest investment, Brad Richards). An experienced cup winner that should come cheap considering the Ducks won’t get anything for him if he were to stay and retire. Why the hell would the Ducks trade Bob Ryan? To re-build? The kids only 24! And def not for Dubinsky. Ryan’s cap hit is only a million more per year and is signed for the same amount of time as Dubi. They would get less production but for almost the same price. Not to mention they just committed to him with this contract only a year ago. I’d love too have him to but i guess that’s what EA NHL 12 is for.
