Prospal signs extension with Columbus
From TSN, It is a one year extension for 2.5 million. Is it safe to assume that this means he is off the trading block or is he still a viable option for down the stretch. I think a pure rental such as Smyth or Selanne will be the best option to get over the hump without giving up too much.

damn I kinda wanted to see him back as a backburner option if we didn't grab anyone but..
Yesterday getting out of a cab with my boy at msg after the giant game we run into john gionnone. First off, the most down to earth guy ever, as nice as he is on msg is how he is in person. We went right up to him to tell him how big of rangers fans we are and got into about a 15 convo outside of msg next to a halal truck lol. But neways we spoke about everything from the pp, and he said it has to be the system more than the players bc the pp is even sucking the talents out of richards, but when we got to the trade talks I was surprised how candid he was. He said the building knows sather wants smyth or ryan, but he said smyth getting traded in nonsense bc he went to the oilers to retire will not waive his nmc. He also said ryan was a pipe dream but believe the man upstairs (meaning sather) is going to try for him. Lastly his gut is they are going for a shot from the point if not those two, he even brought up souray and suter, saying that the point of emphasis for sather this year is the pp and a dman. Take it for what its worth but I found it instresting that, that’s what he’s hearing as a first option rather than bolstering up the offense. But when I stop and think if we convert on some pps we wouldn’t be in these 2 1 games night in and out.

what the hell is the CBJ doing? re-signing a 37 year old? they need to blow it up and start over not sign 37 year olds.
Maybe they plan on blowing the rest of it up and are keeping him as a stable piece?
IDK why they don’t trade him for a 2nd/3rd.
"Mr. Madison, what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul."
LET'S GO RANGERS!!!
If they are going to blow up and rebuild it makes sense to have a positive veteran in the lockeroom for the kids coming in. This might be insurance that they have that guy in case the move Nash out.

I guess but it seems strange to not try and get something for him in trade especially with a light market for players out there, it appears.
Can’t say I disagree. If they a willing to do a ’gentleman’s agreement’ on the post playing stuff why wouldn’t you just say we are gonna trade you for some assets but we want to resign you in the summer.
Just adds to the questions surrounding management and their plans.

Wow, thanks, klh2009 . That’s good to know! :-)
Yes, the CBJ need to sign talented young people, but if the veterans aren’t providing the correct type of leadership, then you’re only going to poison your new talent.
Vinny does things the right way. He called out the NYRs last year when he thought they were playing lackadasically or weren’t pushing hard enough for a playoff position. I don’t think the Rangers would have made it into the playoffs if VP didn’t get himself healed (against Torts’ expectations) and push! Earlier in the season he supposedly had a clubhouse meeting with his Columbus teammates regarding their lack of intensity. We haven’t heard of Nash initiating one of those Dutch uncle sort of rants…and not ticked-off!Carter either.
I’m very, very curious about just what the “gentlemen’s agreement” between the GM and Vinny entails. Will he become an Assistant Coach after his playing career end? Will he wind up in management? It’s all been kind of vague. Vinny strikes me as intelligent and driven, and his continued presence — whether it’s on a bench or in the front office — could only make things better for Columbus (or whoever they become) a couple years down the line.
