Rangers Vs. Lightning: Keys To The Game

The New York Rangers will take to their home ice once again tonight as they face-off against the Tampa Bay Lightning. The Rangers are coming off of a very heartbreaking loss to the New Jersey Devils on Tuesday evening. With that said, here are tonight's keys to the game.

Let Anger Fuel The Engery: Pretty sure every single Ranger fan across the globe was annoyed at the controversial call that wound up costing the Rangers a point on Tueday. Also, the players themselves are pretty up tight about it as well. They've done it in the past, and they can do it again tonight, they need to use their anger from last game, and let it carry them tonight. I can see them having a huge turnaround game tonight.

Power Play Issues: According to John Tortorella, they worked on the power play in practice once again yesterday afternoon. He stated that it looked better then the first time that they had worked on it. So hopefully, they can FINALLY put a puck in the net tonight, with the man-advantage. Specials teams can single handily win games, as we saw on Tuesday night as well.

Follow after the jump for more.

Star-divide

Get Zone Time: The Rangers had a hard time gaining the zone last game against the Devils, and they need to avoid that here tonight. The Lightning are another type of team that likes to trap their opponents in the neutral zone. They need to find a way around that game, get into the zone, and control the play. If they can do that, they will put a couple on the board tonight.

Really Torts you just started working on it?

Its been nearly 1/5 of the season since our PP has been anything above craptacular. I think its time to look at maybe changing the overall philosophy rather than players or scheme. I’m just tired of having three guys up by the blue line.
Also, Ill take Hags to get the first goal.

Shh, we’re hoping Arty and Dubi score to up their value first. Then we strike!

by Caerid11 on Feb 9, 2012 3:31 PM EST up reply actions

Rick Nash would score first every time. Amirite?

by MyFavBaseballSquadron on Feb 9, 2012 3:36 PM EST up reply actions

Definitely. Second and third too!!!

by Caerid11 on Feb 9, 2012 3:47 PM EST up reply actions

The only winning move is not to play!

Just kidding, picking Anisimov to score first, again. Got robbed last game.

Was thinking about it and the real “winning move” for our guessing game would be to just start the season picking Gaborik first for every game. He scores 25% of our goals, you’d end up winning the season easily.

Johnny Malkin

With the first goal..
Is it Lundquist in net?

by Free2beljg on Feb 9, 2012 3:31 PM EST reply actions

if he’s johnny malkin we need to start setting him up for that one-timer slapshot top-cheese on the powerplay that malkin trademarked

Lundqvist gets the 1st goal, then he pulls out the shotgun celebration on Gaborik,( Payback for the All stars )who we earlier traded for Stamkos.

Key to the game?

AA pulling out the shotgun goal celebration again.

Manning lobs it, Burress alone, touchdown New York!
For the empty net, Mark Messier... do you believe it?! Do you believe it?! He said we will win game 6 - he has just picked up the hat trick!

by Broheem NJ on Feb 9, 2012 4:32 PM EST reply actions

Or Rupp/Prust getting even for the punk moves that Lecav and Downie pulled against our poor, misunderstood Artie.

First goal- Ville Niemenen.

Real first goal- Captain Cally.

he got the first goal against the flyers and git robbed for the first goal last game…who else would score first tonight?

I feel like

since that last game against tampa when AA pulled out the shotgun he hasn’t been the same player. I will say the past couple of games he seems like he might be getting his mojo back.

Disallowed Goal

I know it sucked to lose to Jersey but anyone watching last nights game between Boston and Buffalo? That Boston goal that was disallowed was an even weaker call IMO.

Go Rangers – First goal from Hags

Seriously love the way he plays, need to get him on PK more

by Michael Tricario on Feb 9, 2012 5:57 PM EST reply actions

yeah but they lost 6-0

lol that goal wouldnt of mattered.

by rain-g-errs on Feb 9, 2012 6:17 PM EST up reply actions

key to the game is to ignore all of this we need this guy and that guy crap. keep playing like they’ve been, rebounding from losses with a win, playing tight D, and ferocious forecheck.

i guess stopping stamkos too, who’s on a roll.

Shoot the puck Barry!!!

first goal of the game

any ranger please.

Shoot the puck Barry!!!

by dsteak on Feb 9, 2012 6:16 PM EST reply actions

i really really hope

Artie does his Ak47 celebration again when he scores on our power play,

that would be the best possible thing i could see in tonight’s ranger game

ahh if only the stars could align.

by rain-g-errs on Feb 9, 2012 6:18 PM EST reply actions

that would probably result in Anisimov getting suspended…. if it really happened.

by CrazyRangerFan on Feb 9, 2012 6:19 PM EST up reply actions

what would be the call? People have done those kinds of celebrations in NHL games before.

by rain-g-errs on Feb 9, 2012 6:22 PM EST up reply actions

i really really don’t understand what the big deal was besides Lecavlier being a little bitch and taking it the wrong way, it got incredibly out of hand and he took out his teams terrible start (frustration) out on poor Artie. it was disgusting to watch.

by rain-g-errs on Feb 9, 2012 6:23 PM EST up reply actions

It was taken out of hand, but the fact he pointed it at the Lightnings net/goalie was the problem. It would have been better if he pointed it at our endboards it prolly wouldn’t have gotten out of hand…with that said I thought it was hilarious when it happend.

by CrazyRangerFan on Feb 9, 2012 6:35 PM EST up reply actions

I guess a hothead like Lecavalier can see that as an insult.

But i think the only reason he pointed at the goal was to show he buried one in, from what i remember he referred to it like shooting billiard balls into the pocket, so as hockey stick is to billiard stick the net is to the pocket.

I was pretty upset when everybody ripped on Artie and he got jumped and we didn’t help him too much and then the penalties went against us too that was really a kicker, i dunno doesn’t seem like he was trying to jeer or insult tampa bay to me…
