The New York Rangers dropped their second straight 4-1 game, tonight against the Ottawa Senators. The Rangers were able to get the first goal of the game, but couldn't produce much more to get the win. The Senators capitalized on a lot of the Rangers turnovers, and misplays tonight, and they came out on top tonight.

Just 4:36 into the first period, Ryan Callahan put the Rangers on the board with a great cross-ice feed from Brad Richards. Callahan made a sprawling attempt, was able to get his stick on the puck, and tap it into the net. However, just over a minute later, Zack Smith ripped a slap shot past Martin Biron from the top of the face-off circles.

That goal is definitely one that Biron would want back, as it should have been a routine save from that far out. Nearing the end of the first period, Nick Foligno put the Senators ahead 2-1 as Biron was unable to control a rebound in front of his crease.

Neither team was able to generate any offense in the second period, and the score remained 3-1 after two periods. However, through two periods, the Rangers had four power play opportunities that went unanswered. Just five minutes into the third period, Kyle Turris put the Senators ahead 3-1 in this game. It was yet another rebound in front of Marty Biron, but you cannot blame him on this one.

Kyle Turris was able to skate in uncontested, right through the middle of the ice to pounce on the rebound in front. Someone has to cover Turris coming into the zone, he was able to beat four Rangers up ice, and went straight to the front of the net.

Jason Spezza sealed the deal with an empty net goal with just under two minutes remaining in the game. The Senators were able to take advantage of the Rangers on every one of their mistakes tonight, and it wound up being the turning point. The Rangers have dropped their last two, and they will be in action tomorrow night in Chicago.
