New York Rangers News: Rangers, Girardi Agree On New Six-Year Deal

Charles LeClaire-USA TODAY Sport

The New York Rangers and Dan Girardi have agreed on a brand new six-year deal that will pay him $5.5 million over the term.

According to Darren Dreger of TSN, the New York Rangers have signed Dan Girardi to a new six-year deal that will pay him $5.5 million annually. At first glance, the price of the deal is right around where everyone expected Girardi to land, but the term may be a year too long. Either way, the contract is based off of his market value, and unfortunately that's what you have to pay in order to keep such an important piece. With this new deal, that means both Ryan McDonagh and Girardi are locked up for the next six years at a combined $10.2 million. What an absolute steal.

Pierre LeBrun also chimed in on Dreger's report, and noted that Girardi's deal also includes a no-movement/no-trade clause. The first three years of the deal will include a full no-movement clause, and the final three will include a modified no-trade clause. The full no-movement clause does hinder the Rangers a bit, but Girardi likely won't be traded in the first three years of his deal anyways.

That now leaves Ryan Callahan who still remains unsigned, and will likely be moved at this Wednesday's trade deadline. Callahan is still insistent on receiving a long-term deal in the range of $7 million, which is something the Rangers aren't willing to comply with.

This is just the beginning of a crazy week ahead for the New York Rangers, so be sure to stay tuned!
