New York Rangers Waive Dylan McIlrath (Will Likely Lose Him For Nothing)

The New York Rangers have waived Dylan McIlrath, attempting to send him back down to Hartford

McIlrath will need to pass through waivers to make it to the AHL, though, and there’s a very good chance that will not happen. He played well last year, has a first round pedigree and is a big body. At just $800K, someone is going to take a flyer on him and if they do the Rangers will lose him for nothing.

It’s worth noting the Rangers could not have handled the McIlrath situation any worse. They tanked his trade value to the point where they couldn’t get anything for him (otherwise they wouldn’t have waived him) and then had to throw him to the masses.

The Rangers are now left with one leftover defenseman (current Adam Clendening). We’ll know by Noon tomorrow if McIlrath is claimed, if not he will be re-assigned to Hartford.
