Chris Drury Named Assistant GM

The New York Rangers have announced Chris Drury as the assistant general manager for the team. Drury is replacing Jeff Gorton, who obviously took over the full time role this summer.

Drury — who was reportedly vital in the acquisition presentation for Jimmy Vesey -- has been working with the team in various roles the past few years. The former captain will now reside in the front office, helping Gorton — although how big of a role remains to be seen.

We’ve seen former players excel in the player evaluation roles in the NHL, and Drury is no exception. Young enough to still have a footing on the current crop of players and also old enough to see the evolution in the game, the hope is Drury will bring a fresh perspective to a revamped front office.

What he thinks about the defense remains to be seen.
