New York Rangers Highlights

Blueshirt Banter's New York Rangers Highlight Of The Week

This weeks highlight of the week comes out of the game between the New York Rangers, and the Buffalo Sabres. Henrik Lundqvist's save in the shootout to stone Brad Boyes gets the nod for this week. (Click into the story to view the whole video).

This save was chosen mainly because it was one of turning points in the Buffalo game and helped the Rangers take it in a shootout. This save was also featured on ESPN's (I know, who knew they showed hockey?)Top 10, and came away with first stars honors

On the initial move, Lundqvist is completely down and out, but is able to regain himself. He makes up for his first move, and sprawls back to make a glove save, literally on the goal line. Following this save, the Rangers would go on to win the game, courtesy of Ryan Callahan.

Blueshirt Banter's New York Rangers Highlight Of The Week

This week's highlight comes out of the game between the New York Rangers and Boston Bruins. Marian Gaborik's overtime winning against the Bruins gets the nod this week for obvious reasons. (Click into the story to view the full video).

This goal was picked mainly because it helped propel the Rangers past the Bruins who are currently chasing them for the top spot in the East. Gaborik just happened to be in the right place at the right time, and deposited the rebound. However, Tuuka Rask deserves credit for his effort, as he gloved away the first two shots that were put on net by Ryan Callahan and Brad Richards.

Blueshirt Banter's New York Rangers Highlight Of The Week

Sorry we haven't done this in the last two weeks or so, but we're back at it! This weeks highlight comes out of the New York Rangers vs Pittsburgh Penguins game. Brandon Dubinsky's shorthanded goal gets the nod this week for many different reasons. (Click into the full story to view the full video)

This goal was probably one of the nicer ones this season, as Brandon Dubinsky and Ryan Callahan connected for a shorthanded goal. Right off the bat, I can tell you that it looks like the exact same goal that was scored last season, in the Rangers overtime win against the Penguins. However, it was Dubinsky setting up Callahan in that case.

The patience by Ryan Callahan was simply spectacular, as he waited out the defenseman, and slid it over to Brandon Dubinsky, who had a wide open net. This goal also gave the Rangers a crucial 2-1 lead in a very tight game.

Blueshirt Banter's New York Rangers Highlight Of The Week

This week's highlight comes from the Rangers 4-1 victory over the Buffalo Sabres. Ryan Callahan's shorthanded goal gets the nod this week for many reasons. (Click into the full story, to view the video fully)

First off, this goal changed the entire game from that point on. The Rangers were able to grab the 2-1, and did not looking back from there. Also, the incredible move by Callahan to fight off Erhoff, turn backwards, and somehow slip it through the five-hole of Jonas Enroth. This was an overall great play by Callahan, and it was the main contributing factor to the Rangers win, in my opinion.

Blueshirt Banter's New York Rangers Highlight Of The Week

This week's highlight comes from the Carolina Hurricanes game, in which the Rangers took a 5-3 win. Marian Gaborik's goal against Cam Ward gets the nod this week for a variety of reasons. (Click into the story for the full view of the video).

This goal was easily the turning point of the game, which gave the Rangers their first lead of the night. The patience and vision by Jeff Woywitka to make the stretch pass to Anisimov was just amazing. Artem Anisimov also showed his patience as well, on the move, and the eventual pass over to Gabby. Finally, Gaborik with his quick release that beat Cam Ward over the shoulder for the goal.

All three of these players played a large role in the creation of this goal, which is why it was selected as the play of this week.

Blueshirt Banter's New York Rangers Highlight Of The Week

There were plenty of plays to choose from once again, but Carl Hagelin's first career NHL goal against the Philadelphia Flyers stood out the most. (Click into the story for the full view of the video).

There were a few reasons why I selected the clip for this week. First off, the poise and patience of Hagelin to locate the puck in the air and swing at it when the time was right. Second, it gave the Rangers a much needed two goal lead against the Flyers, and secured the win. Third, Hagelin realized the Flyers defensemen were anticipating a pass, so he slipped in front of the net, which led to the eventual goal.

Carl Hagelin has been playing some great hockey since being called up from Connecticut. He now has two points (goal and an assist) in each of his two games. Not to mention, his speed is just unbelievable, which was also a key factor leading to his goal.

Blueshirt Banter's New York Rangers Highlight Of The Week

This segment took a couple of weeks off due to personal power outages, but it's back this week!

There were plenty of plays to choose from this week, but I think Dan Girardi's go-ahead goal against the Carolina Hurricanes deserves the nod. (Click into the story for the full view of the video).

This play was selected for a few reasons. The first is that it was a go-ahead goal which helped extend the Rangers' winning streak to six games. The second aspect was the brilliant finish by Girardi, who roofed the puck over a sprawling Cam Ward

But the most impressive part of this play, in my mind, is the no-look, tape-to-tape pass from Brad Richards to Girardi to set up the play. It was a brilliant display of the creativity Richards brings to the table every night, and it lead to a critical goal in the game.

Blueshirt Banter's New York Rangers Highlight Of The Week

Once again, very small sample size this week since the New York Rangers only played in one game. And even though the Rangers lost to the New York Islanders, there were still a few highlights to chose from. Once again, I don't think too many of you will be upset with the choice.

The pass from Brad Richards to Marian Gaborik looks like a simple one, but there are more than a few ways to miss that outlet. Richards hit Gaborik's take in stride, and allowed Gaborik to break in alone to tie the game at one. This is one of the plays we're hoping to see as the year goes on and two continue to get used to playing with each other.

Richards has a goal and two assists in three games thus far this year, and this is the second week in a row he's been a main contributor in a Blueshirt Banter New York Rangers Highlight Of The Week. Below the jump is past winners.
