New York Rangers Recaps

Rangers Vs. Bruins: Rangers Take Commanding Lead In East With 3-0 Win Over Bruins

Photo

The New York Rangers went on to win their fourth straight game tonight against the Boston Bruins. This win is huge for the Rangers as it now puts them nine points ahead of the second place Bruins, and ten points up on their Atlantic Division rivals, the Philadelphia Flyers.

The game started off fairly even in the starting minutes of the first period. Just ten minutes into the first, the Rangers got their first power play of the night coming at the halfway point of the period. Once again, the Rangers made it count with a pretty, and set passing play that lead to the goal by Ryan Callahan. The goal read the same exact way as it did back in Philadelphia, with Marian Gaborik and Michael Del Zotto picking up the assists.

Nearing the end of the period, the Rangers applied some tremendous pressure on the Bruins, in their own end. With under 30 seconds left in the first, Ryan McDonagh threw a shot on net, that wound up finding the back of the net. It looked as if it deflected off of Zdeno Chara in front of Tim Thomas, and McDonagh came away with his sixth goal of the season.

Rangers Vs. Capitals: Rangers Hold On For 3-2 Win Over Capitals

Photo

The New York Rangers hung on to a 3-2 lead late, and pulled out a victory against the Washington Capitals, on Sunday afternoon. Henrik Lundqvist was a star in net once again this afternoon, turning away some late pressure by the Washington Capitals.

After an even start to the first period, we had the first goal of the game just 11 minutes in. Ryan Callahan shoveled a backhand from the side of the net, over the sprawling Michael Neuvirth to give the Rangers a 1-0 lead. Brad Richards made a great first pass out to Anton Stralman, who later found Callahan to the side of the net. The Rangers have been connecting for some pretty goals over the last two games.

However, the lead only lasted until the 6:31 mark of the second period as Alexander Semin ripped a slap shot over the blocker of Henrik Lundqvist. Jason Chimera used his outside speed to gain the zone on the Rangers, and left a nifty drop pass for Semin.

Rangers Vs. Flyers: Power Play Success Earns Rangers Fifth Straight Victory Over Flyers

Photo

The New York Rangers came away with their fifth straight victory against the Flyers this season, with a 5-2 victory this afternoon. Ryan Callahan notched his second career hat trick today, including two power play goals as well. Henrik Lundqvist had another strong performance between the pipes to preserve the lead for the Rangers.

Just eight minutes in the first period, we saw Stu Bickel and Tom Sestito renew their rivalry once again. Sestito crashed the net after the whistle and Bickel took exception. Both would receive ten minute misconducts, but Sestito would get the extra minor for roughing. It's also worth noting that Stu Bickel was dressed as a seventh defenseman for this game, and saw some time on the right side of the fourth forward line.

Just 24 seconds later (ironic huh?), Ryan Callahan cashed in on the power play to give the Rangers an early 1-0 lead. Marian Gaborik made a great pass over to Callahan, which wound up fooling Sergei Bobrovsky. However, just over five minutes later, Wayne Simmonds tied up the team with an beautiful deflection in front of Lundqvist.

Rangers Vs. Lightning: Brad Richards Nets Winning Goal To Beat Lightning 4-3 In Overtime

Photo

The New York Rangers put together quite the comeback against the Tampa Bay Lightning tonight at Madison Square Garden. Brad Richards ended the game off of a beautiful feed from Artem Anisimov at the 2:37 mark, to the win the game for the Rangers. Marty Biron also improved his record to 10-2 this season with the victory.

The Rangers went on an early penalty kill as Brandon Dubinsky took a slashing penalty just about four minutes into the first period. The Rangers would have a strong kill, and kill off the penalty to get back to even strength. However, a bad defensive lapse later on in the period would cost them the lead.

Steven Stamkos flew around Anton Stralman, and broke in on a semi breakaway on Martin Biron. Stamkos slipped it between the legs of Biron, and Tampa came away with a 1-0 lead in the first period of play.

Rangers Vs. Devils: Rangers Robbed Of A Point On Home Ice

Photo

The New York Rangers were robbed yet again when it came to playing against the New Jersey Devils, this time it happened in their own building. Last time these two teams met, it was David Clarkson who tied the game in the last minute, of a ridiculous bounce off of the stanchion.

This game started off what appeared to look like a very energetic game, as Brandon Prust dropped the gloves with Eric Boulton, and at the same time Mike Rupp took on Cam Janssen. The tone was set, and is seemed as if we were going to have some hockey, but then the type of hockey the Devils play kicked in.

The Devils were able to get on the board just eight minutes into the game after a holding penalty was called against Stu Bickel. The Rangers found themselves down early, and were not able to rebound for the rest of the game, well, at least it appeared so.

Rangers Vs. Flyers: Rangers Continue Dominance Over Flyers

Photo

The New York Rangers continued their dominance against the Philadelphia Flyers this afternoon with an energetic 5-2 win. Artem Anisimov came away with a three point evening, and helped propel the Rangers to victory. Henrik Lundqvist also made some amazing saves to keep the Rangers on top.

Just a minute and four seconds into the first period, Artem Anisimov gave the Rangers a quick 1-0 lead. Dan Girardi's slap shot was redirected in front by Anisimov, and it beat Ilya Bryzgalov over the shoulder. Not to long after the goal, we had our first fight of the afternoon between Stu Bickel and Wayne Simmonds.

The Rangers would eventually head into the locker room with a solid 1-0 lead of their divisional opponents. After Bickel took an interference call early in the second period, he dropped the gloves with Tom "Fantasy Camp" Sestito, in his second battle of the game. Both players got their blows in and got back to some hockey.

Rangers Vs. Sabres, Rangers Beat Sabres 1-0 In Shootout

Buffalo Sabres' Derek Roy (9) battles for the puck with New York Rangers' Marc Staal (18) in front of Rangers goalie Henrik Lundqvist, of Sweden, during the first period of an NHL hockey game in Buffalo, N.Y., Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2012. (AP Photo/David Duprey)

The Rangers and Sabres met tonight in Buffalo in a game that was expected to be a physical, hard fought battle between the best team in the East and the most inconsistent team in the East.

Both teams played hockey....I think.

The first three periods were an endless cycle of dumped pucks, shots off the goalies pads, and turnovers, while the Henrik Lundqvist and Ryan Miller swapped simple saves. Both had a few fantastic ones, but overall the night wasn't too difficult for either.

The Rangers power play was the Rangers power play, so the team didn't get any goals again there, while the penalty kill was the penalty kill, so neither did the Sabres.

After an intense overtime period, the teams went into a shootout, where Marian Gaborik and Ryan Callahan scored for the Rangers, and only Jason Pominville scored for the Sabres.

Great game for Lundqvist, but overall not the most exciting 1-0 win you will ever see. Take the two points and move on!

Rangers Vs. Devils: Ridiculous Bounce Costs Rangers Two Points In Jersey

Photo

The New York Rangers couldn't have lost two points any other way tonight, but it took a ridiculous bounce off of stanchion, and right on to the stick of David Clarkson. There was absolutely defensive lapse, or anyone's fault, it was just a bad bounce at the right time for the Devils.

After a fairly even first period, Anton Stralman finally got the Rangers on the board, with just over 30 seconds remaining in the period. Marian Gaborik's original shot was blocked, and fluttered over to Stralman who had an empty cage. The Rangers would head into the locker room with a 1-0 lead, one they wouldn't be complaining about.

Just eight minutes into the second period, Zach Parise got his own rebound, and put it over the shoulder of Martin Biron. That goal would tie up the game, and make way for a very energetic finish to the second period.
