As per NHL.com: Nicklas Lidstrom has signed a one year contract with the Detroit Red Wings. For those of you that thought he might be a Ranger next year ... well, that pipe-dream is over.
In honor of Dustin Byfuglien, Hawks fans must go the rest of the week without pronouncing the letter "G". All in ood fun.
FYI, Blueshirt Banter Radio will be on the air tomorrow night at 9:30 PM, immediately following the Rangers-Devils game. We are expected to be joined by P.A. Parenteau. The show will run from 9:30 to 11:30 tomorrow night.
"Marian Gaborik will have the most closely watched groin in NY since Eliot Spitzer"
I know this NHL news is Jim's territory but alas ...
Allegedly Colorado has offered Patrick Roy the General Manager AND Head Coaching positions for his former team.
Take this for what it's worth gang:
"Many rumors soared around Rangers forward Nikolai Zherdev. It was said that he was invited to the national team for the World Championship with ulterior motives — [that while] there Vyacheslav Bykov and Igor Zakharkin actively urged the player to [come to] Ufa. The sum which the Salavat bosses supposedly offered Nikolai was said to be $12 million for three years (though, for obvious reasons, it will hardly be possible to verify the accuracy of that information in the near future).
But according to the latest information received from [those in] the immediate circle of the hockey player, Zherdev is inclined to remain in New York. He had the best season in his career with the Rangers, and can expect a considerable increase in salary, even in spite of his failure to perform in the playoffs."
Wayne Gretzky almost certainly will be out as coach of the Phoenix Coyotes, should the NHL defeat BlackBerry king Jim Balsillie in an AZ bankruptcy court today.
One of the apparent conditions of sports magnate Jerry Reinsdorf's lowball offer to purchase the bankrupt Coyotes is to end the multimillion-dollar relationship with The Great One.
