Man this 2013 class of draft picks the Rangers made have been impressing, no? The Rangers were able to get their hands on three players in the third round that many experts didn't expect to be there. And while many Rangers fans assumed the worst when the Rangers didn't have a 1st or 2nd round pick in one of the deepest drafts in recent memory, New York made out well for itself.
Anthony Duclair, who has been one of the brightest spots in the Rangers' farm system this year, continued his red-hot pace scoring two goals and adding an assist in a win Wednesday night. That raises his totals on the year to 35 goals and 28 assists for 63 points in 40 games. The best season of his junior career was a 66-point performance in 63 games. Last year (in an injury plagued season) he had 50 points in 55 games.
A lot of scouts contributed his free fall in the draft to that injury plagues sophomore season. Well Duclair is proving scouts wrong this year, and his play is making a lot of people excited about him (rightfully so). The Rangers recently locked Duclair up, signing him to an entry level contract last week.
Tambellini Jumps From The NCAA To The WHL
Rangers' prospect Adam Tambellini is now a player in the WHL. Find out more here.
Another guy who made some waves in the Rangers' system? Adam Tambellini. Earlier in the week it was announced that Tambellini was jumping from the NCAA (University of North Dakota) to the WHL, in a move that caught many people off guard. Remember, once you join the junior ranks you're no longer eligible to play in the NCAA, so this was a permanent move for Tambellini.
In his debut for the Calgary Hitmen of the WHL, Tambellini scored a goal and added three assists for four points in a 6-5 win. There are a lot of ways to make a first impression, but I doubt any are as successful as having that type of a first game.
One final note, Rangers defensive prospect Ryan Graves (4th round 2013) was traded to Val-d'Or for their playoff run in the QMJHL.
