Three Stars of the Week
Number three: Anthony Duclair The 19-year-old struggled against Winnipeg Saturday night, but was monumental in the Rangers crazy comeback against the Wild, scoring the game-tying and his first career NHL goal.
Number two: Dan Girardi After essentially every Rangers defenseman got off to a rough start, Girardi has been a player who's improved tremendously, and in Saturday's loss, he played a career-high 34:50 in that Jets game with New York down two blue liners.
Number one: Rick Nash Again, this is very simple: Nash has been and continues to be the teams' best player, and there's not much debate. He scored again on Monday, while adding an assist. On Saturday, Nash had six shot attempts, and created some of the better Rangers opportunities.
What You Missed
If you turned off the television or left early from Monday night's game, you missed a heckuva comeback. Long video, but worth watching.
Now, onto the notes, of which there are plenty.
Have to start with Saturday night's game against Winnipeg, which is the cause of most of these subsequent stories. The Jets beat the Rangers 1-0 in a shootout. Some recaps. [Blueshirt Banter] [NY Post] [The Record] [Daily News] [ESPN NY] [Newsday]
During that game, both Ryan McDonagh and Kevin Klein were injured. On Sunday, we learned McDonagh will miss 3-4 weeks, while Klein still needs to be evaluated. In other news, Derek Stepan will not be back on Monday, while Dan Boyle is getting closer to a return. [Blueshirt Banter] [Ranger Rants] [Blueshirts Blog] [Newsday]
As a result of all of that, the Rangers have recalled defensemen Dylan McIlrath and Conor Allen from Hartford. [Blueshirt Banter] [Ranger Rants]
The Rangers also placed Ryan Malone on waivers on Sunday. [Blueshirt Banter]
Down two more regular defensemen, and four of the six blue liners from opening night, the Rangers are reportedly interested in Carolina's Andrej Sekera. [Blueshirt Banter]
With a fuller schedule of games in November, the plan is to rest Henrik Lundqvist more, and give Cam Talbot more appearances in goal. [NY Post] [Blueshirts Blog] [Newsday]
As Stepan gets closer to a return, the heat will be turned up on Kevin Hayes with another center added to the roster, and Chris Mueller still around. [Daily News]
You can't just stick an ineffective player on the fourth line, bury him there, and use it to rationalize toughness. We'll see right through that. [Blueshirt Banter]
Want to see what all your favorite Rangers dressed up as for Halloween? We've got you covered. [Blueshirt Banter]
