2015 NHL Playoffs: 4/27 Open Thread. Will it be the Isles or the Caps?
Who will the Rangers play in the second round? We learn the answer to that question tonight.
So, time for another open thread for 2015 Playoff hockey... and this one should be a doozy.
Tonight the Rangers' second round (Conference Semifinal) opponent will be decided when the puck drops at 7:30 EST at the Verizon Center in Washington D.C. The Islanders are going to try and win a Game 7 road game against the Washington Capitals to get past the first round of the playoffs for the first time since 1993 when they lost in the Conference Finals to the Montreal Canadiens and some guy named Patrick Roy. 1993. I've spent most of my life actively trying to imagine being everything but an Islanders fan, but I can't imagine how excited, anxious, terrified, and superstitious they all are right now. Games like this are what playoff hockey is all about.
- GAME SIX: Lightning at Red Wings, 7:00 EST. Wings lead the series 3-2.
- GAME SEVEN: Islanders at Capitals, 7:30 EST. Series is tied at 3-3.
The other game on tonight could be the last time the Tampa Bay Lightning take to the ice in their 2014-15 campaign. I don't know about you guys, but I can't describe how surprised I am by how this series has gone. When you look at what the Lightning accomplished this season, their depth scoring, their goaltending and defense, and their character and work ethic... I honestly saw them as serious Cup contenders. Thus far the Lightning have been grounded (eh? EH?!) by the Red Wings and will face elimination tonight at the Joe Louis Arena.
My only complaint about tonight's games is that I can't watch both of them. This could prove to be a great night for hockey and, very possibly, a very important night for the Rangers' fate.
Mike's Game to Watch:
Islanders at the Capitals. Here's hoping for at least double-digit overtimes.
Who do you want the Rangers to meet later in the week in the second round? Alex the Great and the Capitals? Or JT91 and the Islanders?
