2015 NHL Free Agency: Open Thread

New, comments

The free agent market officially opens this afternoon, and there will likely be a ton of money thrown around.

Andy Marlin-USA TODAY Sports

The free agent frenzy is officially upon us and today will be the day where many teams regret throwing around an immense amount of cash on a fairly week UFA market. As for the Rangers, they will likely be very quiet for the second straight year as their sights are focused on locking up their restricted free agents, and their cap crunch prevents them from being players today.

Unless the Rangers find a way to move a contract like Kevin Klein or Dan Girardi, don't expect much news out of New York City this afternoon. As for the other teams, there will plenty of mistakes made today and luckily, the Rangers won't be one of them. The fun kicks off at noon with Sportsnet's coverage, which will also be streamed live on NHL.com as well as NHL Network in the United States.

Which will be the first domino to drop? What teams hands out the most ridiculous contract of the afternoon?

We'll find out shortly!
