The New York Riveters historic inaugural season is over, but the Isobel Cup remains up for grabs between the last two teams standing. Tonight the first game of the Isobel Cup Finals will take place in Newark, New Jersey between the Buffalo Beauts and the best team from the regular season- the Boston Pride. The puck drops for Game One at 7:30 PM EST and the game can be watched at the link above.
The Pride made quick work of the Riveters, sweeping them in two games, after finishing the regular season with a record of 9-0-1 in their last ten games. The Buffalo Beauts won a three game series against the second place Connecticut Whale after losing Game One and are carrying tons of momentum and emotion into their showdown with Hilary Knight, Brianna Decker, and the Boston Pride. The Beauts are once again the underdog, but the Pride cannot afford to underestimate them, their desire to win and prove the world wrong, or their power play.
Mike's Player to Watch: Megan Bozek
There will be a lot of pressure on Buffalo's exceptional group of defenders. Emily Pfalzer and Megan Bozek in particular are going to have to eat up a ton of tough minutes against the deep and dangerous Pride roster. The battle for Buffalo's blue line against the dominant Knight line with Decker and Jordan Smelker will undoubtedly be one of the biggest story lines of the series. Bozek is also a big part of Buffalo's offense and her famous big shot will be a weapon that Buffalo depends on to create chaos and opportunities in front of Brittany Ott's crease, especially on the power play.
Game Two will also be played at the Devils' Practice Rink at the Prudential Center tomorrow night at 7:30 PM EST. Game Three, if necessary, will take place at the same venue at 1:30 PM.
