2017 NHL Draft: Open Thread

For the first time in quite awhile, the New York Rangers have not only a first round pick in their possession, but two of them. One of which is within the top ten, and was acquired earlier this afternoon in a blockbuster deal sending Derek Stepan and Antti Raanta to the Arizona Coyotes.

As the general managers flooded the draft floor, there was some belief that the Rangers were considering moving up again from #7. Based on a report from Darren Dreger, it’s possible that the Rangers package the #7 and #21 picks and send them to the Dallas Stars for the third overall pick. It will be interesting to see if the Rangers make some additional noise, and there’s certainly enough smoke out there for it to become a reality.

This is all certainly new territory for the Rangers, and for the first time we’ll all have a reason to pay attention to the first round of the draft.
