New York Rangers backup goaltender Ondrej Pavelec will miss 2-3 weeks with a sprained MCL. If general manager Jeff Gorton had any designs or plans on moving the pending UFA before the trade deadline, they can now be found balled up in the nearest trash bin.

Pavelec has started in 10 games this season and has posted a 4-7-1 record. The Czech-born netminder had a .910 save percentage through nearly 737 minutes of hockey. Pavelec had allowed five goals in his previous two starts before leaving the game against the Calgary Flames after the first period.
Yesterday the Rangers called up rookie AHL goaltender Alexandar Georgiev. He will serve as the team’s backup while Pavelec is on the mend.
