After the New York Rangers announced that Pavel Buchnevich was not practicing this morning, Larry Brooks reported that he sustained a concussion and would be out indefinitely.

Buchnevich was injured last night against the Toronto Maple Leafs around the 16-minute mark of the second period, when Jake Gardiner’s elbow caught him in the jaw.

Buchnevich took one more shift after the collision, but left the game midway through the second period during a stoppage to repair the glass and did not return. He joins Kevin Shattenkirk and Chris Kreider on the Rangers’ injury list.

So far this season, Buchnevich ranks highly among his teammates in a number of categories. Along with being second in points (32) and power play points (12), he’s first in 5-on-5 points (20), scoring rate (2.1 points per hour), and primary points (16, 1.68 per hour). His absence will certainly have an impact on this already struggling team.
