Today the Rangers announced that goaltender Marek Mazanec, who was a pending restricted free agent, has re-signed with the team. The big Czech netminder split the 2017-18 season between HC Slovan Bratislava in the KHL and the Hartford Wolf Pack in the AHL.
Mazanec was signed by the Rangers on Dec. 5, 2017 after it became alarmingly clear that the Wolf Pack needed a change in net. After a somewhat rocky first few months in Hartford he missed about two months — from mid-January to mid-March — with an injury. In his 20 appearances with the Wolf Pack Mazanec posted a .907 save percentage and finished the season with a record of 11-6-1-1.
The former Predators’ prospect turns 27 in July. Mazanec will be an unrestricted free agent on July 1, 2019. His contract is a one-year, two-way deal worth $650,000.
