Game #5: New York Rangers vs Washington Capitals Open Thread

After handing the New Jersey Devils their first win of the season last night, the Rangers are back in action 24 hours later. The Blueshirts will head into Capital One Arena tonight and clash with the Washington Capitals. The Capitals have been busy over the first two weeks of the season, having played eight games and compiled a respectable 4-2-2 record to open the 2019-20 season.

Although Washington swept last year’s season series with a 4-0-0 record, the Rangers forced three of the four games beyond regulation, and were only outscored 17-13. With hopes of competing for a playoff spot, the back-to-back-to-back-to-back Metropolitan Division champions serve as an early season measuring stick for New York. After watching Alexandar Georgiev start last night, Henrik Lundqvist is in net tonight.

Player to Watch: Brett Howden

After getting promoted to the 2nd line and centering Kaapo Kakko and Chris Kreider, Howden was quiet in his first game as the Blueshirts’ 2C. With a game now under his belt to establish chemistry with his new wingers, Howden could be primed for a big performance tonight. Or, it mught just be more of the same. Either way, keep an eye on Howden.

Enjoy the game!
