Game #1: Winnipeg Jets vs New York Rangers Open Thread

The waiting is over.

The New York Rangers are back in action tonight, playing their first meaningful hockey game in nearly six months. They’ll open the 2019-20 season at Madison Square Garden against Blake Wheeler, Bryan Little, and the rest of the Winnipeg Jets.

The Jets are coming off a disappointing first round playoff exit at the hands of the eventual champion St. Louis Blues, and major changes came in the wake of their six game defeat. Of the six defenseman that drew into the lineup for Winnipeg last spring, four of them have moved on to greener pastures, one of which is the Blueshirts’ own Jacob Trouba.

The Rangers’ lines are as follows:

Player to Watch: Kaapo Kakko

After being selected 2nd overall by the Blueshirts in June, Kakko is set to make his NHL debut skating across a player he shares plenty of similarities with. Winnipeg’s Patrik Laine is another Finnish sensation, selected 2nd overall behind an American center three years ago. Although he’s become a one dimensional player, Laine’s one dimension is the most valuable skill to have, as his 110 goals since breaking into the league are the sixth most of all players, while his 44 power play goals are second best. Look for Kakko to make his NHL debut a memorable one.

Enjoy the game!
