Game #19: Washington Capitals vs New York Rangers Open Thread

After three days off to recover from back-to-back stinkers in the Sunshine State, the New York Rangers are back in action tonight. With a national audience set to tune in on NBCSN, the Blueshirts will welcome the league leading Washington Capitals into the world’s most famous arena for the first time this season.

Despite failing to defend their 2018 Stanley Cup victory and exiting last spring’s playoffs in the first round, the Capitals (16-3-4) are off to a fast start this season, and will look to make the reeling Rangers their next victims. Tonight’s home game is sandwiched between road trips to Florida and Canada, where the Rangers will take on the Senators and Canadiens over the weekend. If there was ever a measuring stick game for David Quinn’s squad to see how far they’ve come, tonight is it.

Player to Watch: Tim Gettinger

After being recalled from AHL Hartford in place of Lias Andersson, Gettinger will make his season debut on Broadway tonight. Gettinger was promoted for a four game cup of coffee last season, but failed to find the stat sheet. In spite of a underwhelming 4-2-6 stat line in 17 AHL games this fall, the Rangers feel what the 6”6”, 220 lb Gettinger can bring to the team is what’s necessary for right now. Look for him to prove them right.

Enjoy the game!
