Rangers Scratch Andersson and Lindgren for McKegg and Staal

This marks the first time this season that Lias Andersson will be a healthy scratch

The New York Rangers announced that veteran defenseman Marc Staal will draw back into the lineup after being a healthy scratch for the last three games. Staal comes into the lineup for rookie defenseman Ryan Lindgren, who has averaged 12:45 TOI/GP at 5-on-5 in the Rangers last three games.

Swedish center Lias Andersson is also coming out of the lineup for tonight’s game. Andersson will be replaced by veteran forward Greg McKegg, who has played in five of the Rangers’ 12 games to date.

This marks the first time this season that Andersson has been a healthy scratch. Through a dozen games, he’s averaged 7:39 TOI/GP at 5-on-5 and 2:15 TOI/GP on the penalty kill. Andersson, 21, has one assist in 12 games this season and is dead even on the dot with a 50.0 percent success rate in faceoffs. His most frequent linemates at 5-on-5 have been Brendan Smith (61:10) and Micheal Haley (38:15).

Lindgren has skated almost exclusively with Adam Fox as his d-partner at 5-on-5. The Rangers’ other pairs over the last three games have been Libor Hajek with Jacob Trouba and Brady Skjei with Tony DeAngelo..

The Rangers play the Detroit Red Wings tonight at 8:00 p.m. ET. The Red Wings currently have the worst record in the NHL, starting the year at 4-11-1 with a record of 1-8-1 over their last 10 games.
