Game #35: Anaheim Ducks vs New York Rangers Open Thread

After having a day to stew over their defeat against the Toronto Maple Leafs, the Rangers are back in action for a matinee affair. The Anaheim Ducks are in town today, and the Blueshirts will look to defend home ice and avenge 4-3 shootout loss they suffered in Anaheim eight days ago.

Last Saturday’s game saw the Rangers jump out to a two goal lead in the first period, but fail to hold it and concede a game tying goal with under 2:00 remaining in regulation before falling in the skills competition. With only two games left before the Christmas break, David Quinn will want his squad to use this games as a springboard towards a successful second half.

Player to Watch: Brett Howden

In the wake of Lias Andersson’s trade request, Howden just became a much more important player for the Rangers moving forward. With Filip Chytil’s future down the middle or on the wing to be determined, coach Quinn has opted to shift Howden over to the wing for today’s game as well. While it would behoove the Blueshirts for Howden to emerge as a capable center, getting a look at his potential on the wing is a situation worth monitoring.

Enjoy the game!
