Game #38: New York Rangers vs Toronto Maple Leafs Open Thread

After knocking off the Carolina Hurricanes by a 5-3 margin to earn two points 24 hours ago, the Blueshirts have crossed the border into Canada, and are set to take on the Toronto Maple Leafs in an Original Six matchup. These two teams are meeting for the second time in nine days, as New York failed to defend home ice against Toronto back on December 20th. What stood as a 3-3 tie after two periods became a 6-3 victory for the Maple Leafs when the final buzzer sounded, and David Quinn’s squad will look for a different result tonight.

After watching Henrik Lundqvist make 39 saves against Carolina last night, Alexandar Georgiev will man the crease for the Blueshirts tonight. Brendan Lemieux will be out indefinitely with a fractured hand, and Steven Fogarty has been recalled to take his place.

Player to Watch: Steven Fogarty

After being passed over in favor of Tim Gettinger, Cristoval Nieves, and Phil Di Giuseppe on past occasions this season, the Rangers have opted to promote Fogarty from AHL Hartford in the wake of Lemieux’s injury. This will be Fogarty’s third stint on Broadway, as he previously skated in the season finale of the 2017-18 campaign, and also earned a ten game recall last season, going pointless during both stints. Look for Fogarty to make sure that the third time is the charm and make an impact tonight

Enjoy the game!
