Rangers Sign Joey Keane to Entry-Level Contract

The New York Rangers have signed defenseman Joey Keane to a three-year entry-level contract, according to agent Keith McKittrick.

Keane, 19, was selected 88th overall by the Rangers in the 2018 draft using a third-round pick acquired from Boston in the Nick Holden trade. Keane has seven goals and 29 assists in 58 OHL games this season.

Keane has had ups and downs this season, but handing him the contract is a no-brainer for the Rangers. The smooth-skating defenseman was one of the breakout performers at the World Junior Summer Showcase and had a strong training camp and preseason with the Rangers.

Keane will be eligible to turn pro and play in the AHL or ECHL for the 2019-2020 season.
