2019 Stanley Cup Playoffs: Carolina Hurricanes vs Washington Capitals Game 7 Open Thread

And then there were nine.

After last night’s festivities saw the Toronto Maple Leafs and Vegas Golden Knights exit the playoffs, the final game of the first round is set to take place tonight. A rivalry years in the making, dating back to the days of the old Southeast Division, will come to a head to night. The Carolina Hurricanes will head into Capital One Arena and look to end the Washington Capitals’ dreams of repeating as Stanley Cup Champions.

The home teams has won every game in this series, with the Capitals earning the opening victory and following that up with an overtime win in Game 2. Two strong performances from the Hurricanes sent the series back to D.C. as a best-of-3, and the teams successfully defended home ice in Games 5 and 6 to force tonight’s deciding game.

A plucky underdog vs a division champion primed for a Cup run. An overtime winner in Game 2 to deliver what appeared to be a dagger to the lower seeded team, only for the underdog to come back and tie the series. Home teams winning every game, forcing a deciding Game 7 in Washington. This all sounds familiar.....
