2019 Stanley Cup Playoffs: Colorado Avalanche vs San Jose Sharks Game 7 Open Thread

And then there were five...

Following last night’s action that saw the St. Louis Blues defeat the Dallas Stars and advance to the Western Conference Finals, three of the NHL’s final four spots have been claimed, and the fourth will be claimed tonight.

After trading win for the first six games of the series, the Colorado Avalanche and San Jose Sharks will face off at SAP Center to earn the right to play the Blues in the next round. The Sharks previously met the Blues in the 2016 Western Conference Finals, where they knocked St. Louis off in six games. The Avalanche’s last meeting with the Blues came in the 2001 Western Conference Finals, where they won the series in five games enroute to winning the Stanley Cup.

The outcome of tonight’s game also has some minor ramifications for the New York Rangers. If the Sharks defend home ice and defeat the Avalanche, the Winnipeg Jets’ 1st round pick that New York owns will be the 20th overall selection. The 2nd rounder the Blueshirts acquired from Dallas would be 49th overall. The 4th and 7th picks New York acquired from Columbus would be 112th and 205th. Should Colorado go into San Jose and win, each pick would move up one spot to 19th, 48th, 111th, and 204th respectively.

Puck drop is scheduled for slightly after 9:00 PM EDT on NBCSN. Enjoy the game.
