According to reports, defenseman John Gilmour has signed with the Buffalo Sabres on a one-year, one-way deal worth $700k. The one-way aspect of the contract is a big deal for Gilmour, who has established himself as a star defensemen at the AHL level over the past few seasons.

In 190 career AHL games, Gilmour has put up 105 points. He was the Hartford Wolf Pack’s top scorer last season with 20 goals and 34 assists in 70 games. That level of production had a lot of NHL teams interested in adding him as a potential third pairing defensemen this offseason, but it’s the Sabres who landed him.

Gilmour, 26, was drafted 198th overall in the 2013 Draft by the Calgary Flames, but signed with the New York Rangers on Aug. 18, 2016 as an unrestricted free agent.
