Update: Igor Shesterkin to start tomorrow

It’s here. It’s happening.

The long-awaited NHL regular season debut of one of the top goaltending prospects in the world, Igor Shesterkin, is nigh. The New York Rangers will start their prized Russian goaltender tomorrow night against the Colorado Avalanche with legend Henrik Lundqvist serving as the team’s backup.

Shesterkin has hands-down been the most valuable player on the Hartford Wolf Pack this season. He has a .932 save percentage through 1335 minutes of action and has earned 15 of the Wolf Pack’s 21 wins in his first season of North American hockey. Thanks to his prowess between the pipes, Hartford is the top team in the Atlantic Division with a record of 21-8-2-5.

The Colorado Avalanche lead the league with 3.71 goals per-game and boast a record of 25-13-4. The Avs’ power play is currently ranked 13th in the league (20.0 percent) and their world-class offense is led by captain Nathan MacKinnon who has 64 points in 42 games this year.

Needless to say, Colorado will be a massive test for Shesterkin.
