Game #51: Dallas Stars vs New York Rangers Open Thread

After securing a pair of wins over the Detroit Red Wings immediately following the All-Star break, the Rangers are back in action tonight. The Dallas Stars are in town tonight, and they’re the only thing standing in between the Blueshirts and their first three game winning streak since November.

In spite of some early season turbulence that saw former head coach Jim Montgomery leave the organization and be replaced with Rick Bowness, the Stars are in good shape as they prepare for the stretch run. A 29-18-4 record has given them a six point cushion over the Chicago Blackhawks for third place in the Central Division, and Dallas is currently locked in a dogfight with the Colorado Avalanche for second place and home ice advantage in a potential first round playoff series.

Player to Watch: Phil Di Giuseppe

After being recalled and returned to AHL Hartford without drawing into the lineup on previous occasions this season, Di Giuseppe is set to make his Rangers’ debut tonight in the wake of Chris Kreider’s injury. The former Carolina Hurricanes’ forward split last season between Carolina and Nashville, and posted a 1-3-4 stat line in 24 games, bringing his career totals to 14-27-41 in 150 contests. If he gets enough ice time to showcase himself, look for Di Giuseppe to make his presence on the ice felt.

Enjoy the game!
