Game #54: Los Angeles Kings vs New York Rangers Open Thread

After inexplicably failing to defend home ice against the lowly Buffalo Sabres, the Rangers will get another crack at two points against the Los Angeles Kings. Gone are the days of New York and Los Angeles battling for Stanley Cup supremacy, as the Kings currently sit dead last in the Western Conference and 30th overall in the NHL. Meanwhile, David Quinn’s is still licking its wounds following Friday night’s pitiful showing against Buffalo, so tonight’s game will pit a highly stoppable force against a very movable object.

As tonight’s contest serves as a rematch of the 2014 Stanley Cup Finals, the Kings were in Newark to battle the Devils in a rematch of their epic 2012 series. The Devils took some revenge by securing a 3-0 victory, so look for Los Angeles to come out and find the back of net early to avoid getting shutout on back-to-back days.

Player to Watch: Igor Shesterkin

David Quinn announced yesterday that the heir apparent to Henrik Lundqvist will be making his sixth NHL start tonight. Shesterkin’s first five games have netted the Rangers four victories, and the one defeat with Shesterkin in goal came as the result of a one goal offensive output in Columbus. Against a team that struggles to generate offense like the Kings do, look for another strong performance out of Shesterkin tonight.

Enjoy the game!
