Rangers announce opening night roster and taxi squad

The roster and taxi squad have been finalized

The New York Rangers have whittled down the team’s active roster by 18 players and announced the 22-man roster and six-man taxi squad for the 2020-21 season.

There are no big surprises here but it’s noteworthy that K’Andre Miller has made the team and, of course, that he’s going to be on the top pair with Jacob Trouba. That, my friends, is what you call a big deal.

It’s also no surprise that Jack Johnson is on the main roster and not on the taxi squad. Speaking of the taxi squad... Morgan Barron, Anthony Bitetto, Colin Blackwell, Libor Hajek, Matthew Robertson, and goaltender Keith Kinkaid are on the squad.

Among the 18 players trimmed were 12 players who are being assigned to the Hartford Wolf Pack. The 2020-21 AHL season is slated to begin on Feb. 4 and the Wolf Pack will be in a division with the Providence Bruins and the Bridgeport Sound Tigers.

Assigned to Hartford

Brodzinski, Crawley, Fontaine, Gettinger, Greco, Huska, Khodorenko, Raddysh, Reunanen, Richards, Rueschhoff, and Wall.

So, there you have it. The Rangers’ 22-man roster and taxi squad. The 2020-21 NHL season begins tomorrow and there will be 116 consecutive nights of hockey.

Let’s drop the puck.
