Game #8: Pittsburgh Penguins vs New York Rangers Open Thread

After an overtime victory broke their losing streak and allowed the Rangers to salvage their four game road trip, the team has returned home to square off with a familiar foe. The Blueshirts and Pittsburgh Penguins are set to clash in another two game set starting tonight, with Madison Square Garden being the stage this time around.

David Quinn’s squad saw a pair of one goal leads after two periods of play turn into a pair of defeats, one in a shootout and one in regulation, during the previous games against the Penguins. In spite of holding leads in five of their seven games thus far, the team is a mediocre 2-2-1 in those games, and that’s a figure that will need to improve if the Rangers want to stay in the playoff race into the spring.

Player to Watch: Alexandar Georgiev

After Igor Shesterkin turned in a respectable effort in Thursday’s victory, seeing Alexandar Georgiev get tonight’s start is a bit of a shocker. Consistency is key for goaltenders to get into a rhythm and play at their best, so sending Shesterkin to the bench after notching his first win of the season could backfire on Coach Quinn. Regardless of that, the Penguins are 0-3-1 away from home this season, so look for Georgiev to play well and backstop the Blueshirts to their second consecutive win.

Enjoy the game!
