With another large round of roster cuts in the books, the Blueshirts’ opening night roster is starting to come into focus. Only 26 players remain, and with the team needing to cut down to no more than 23 ahead of opening night, decision time is rapidly approaching.

The battle for a spot on the 3rd defense pair next to Patrik Nemeth is the most enticing battle, with Nils Lundkvist looking to fend off Zac Jones and Libor Hajek from that spot, as Jarred Tinordi appears entrenched as the regular 7th defenseman. Julien Gauthier and Vitali Kravtsov are duking it out for a spot on the third line alongside Filip Chytil and Barclay Goodrow, while Dryden Hunt and Morgan Barron are competing for the final forward slot on the roster.

Player to Watch: Julien Gauthier

As the only player in the lineup tonight without a role locked in heading to the regular season, a strong performance by Gauthier could earn him a nod in the opening night lineup. The old saying is that nobody loses their job to injury, but Vitali Kravtsov getting nicked up has opened the door for Gauthier to get a longer look in the final games of the pre-season. Keep an eye on him tonight.

Enjoy the game!
