Game #29: New York Rangers vs Washington Capitals Open Thread

The Rangers ended the first half of the season on the highest of high notes two nights ago, blasting the Philadelphia Flyers to the tune of a 9-0 victory. They did that in their first game without David Quinn behind the bench, and they’ll look to keep the ball rolling in our nation’s capital tonight. Alex Ovechkin, Timothy Oshie, and the rest of the Washington Capitals.

While Washington has defeated every other team in the MassMutual East Division this year, the Blueshirts have won both of the prior meetings between these divisional foes. In fact, the two games against New York represent two of only three games the Capitals never held a lead in this season. Suffice to say, the Rangers have had their number thus far.

Player to Watch: Mika Zibanejad

After slumping through a majority if the first half of the season, Zibanejad busted out of his slump in a major way last game. During the Blueshirts’ seven goal second period onslaught, Zibanejad recorded a natural hat trick to double his goal total on the season, while also notching three assists. Those six points in a single period tied Hall of Famer Bryan Trottier for the most points in any period ever. Zibanejad also had the best game of his career, an unforgettable five goal performance, against Washington in one of the final games before the 2019-20 season shut down. Look for another excellent performance out of Zibanejad tonight.

Enjoy the game!
