Game #39: Pittsburgh Penguins vs New York Rangers Open Thread

On the heels of their offensive explosion two nights ago, the Blueshirts are back in action tonight as they look to sweep the Pittsburgh Penguins in the pair of contests. Eight different Rangers scored and Igor Shesterkin made 41 saves as the team cruised to an 8-4 victory on Tuesday, and another performance like that should earn the Rangers the two points they’re looking for tonight.

Immediately following Tuesday’s victory, New York’s players received their COVID-19 vaccines, and the team skipped practice yesterday to allow the players the day to rest. The Rangers already face long odds of mounting a playoff run, and a loss tonight would all but drive a nail into the coffin of this season. With less than one third of the season remaining, every game is crucial.

Player to Watch: Ryan Strome

After failing to record a point watching his streaks of points (11 games) and assists (10 games) fall by the wayside two games ago, Strome responded with a goal and an assist during Tuesday night’s beat down at Madison Square Garden. After signing a two year deal that had many residents of Rangerstown questioning the value of, Strome has responded with a strong season in terms of shot and change generation, and even more scoring than before. With 36 points in 38 games, including a stretch without Artemiy Panarin, Strome has proven himself to be a valuable contributor for the Rangers thus far. Keep an eye on him tonight.

Enjoy the game!
