After getting shellacked by the Penguins last night, the Rangers will need to have short memories and put their lackluster effort behind them and get ready for another game tonight. David Quinn’s squad is heading out to Uniondale to take on the new look Islanders, as the their in-state rivals have loaded up on rental players in pursuit of their first division title since the 1987-88 campaign.
In exchange for a package of four assets headlined by their first round selection in the upcoming Entry Draft, the Islanders acquired Kyle Palmieri and Travis Zajac from the New Jersey Devils in an attempt to shore up their forward depth. As Lou Lamioriello brings in old faces from his time in New Jersey, the Islanders’ general manager hopes his recent moves will allow his team to see the same success the Devils did prior to the institution of the salary cap.
Player to Watch: Alexandar Georgiev
Making his first appearance since March 19th, Georgiev will look to use tonight’s game as an opportunity to re-establish come consistency in his game. Georgiev ceded some starts to veteran netminder Keith Kinkaid while Igor Shesterkin was out with an injury, as Georgiev’s .897 SV% on the season wasn’t cutting it for the team. Having shut out the Islanders in his season debut, look for Georgiev to put forth a strong effort tonight against a team who’s number he’s had as of late.
Enjoy the game!
